Re: 1985 Dyno Compe
Nice try OTHER.. but you are wrong. This is an original single plate US built D-30, frame manufactured in November 1985 according to the serial number. Toy-R-Us... LOL... thanks for the laugh.
Dynos4Days, what SN do you need decoded? In 85 and 86 Dyno framesets were built in the US and Japan and all were 100% chromoly. In 87 the Pro Compe was still built in the US, but all others shifted production from Japan to Taiwan. US models have all number serial numbers on the dropout. These are the most collectible.

Re: 1985 Dyno Compe
i never heard of a 85 dyno.. i thought the first year they made a bike was 1987... US made serial #'s have the date the bike was made in them... i have those same decals on my 87 detour, i didnt know what they were supposed to go on because i never heard of a D-30.... what is the serial # on this bike??? i never seen the single plate behind the seat tube either but the frame does look like an old school frame NOT a much later 90's frame...

Re: 1985 Dyno Compe
OK doubters...
Though it is listed as an 86 model here, it was actually available by around August of 1985 until the early months of 86. Later in 86 the compe came with rims, a straight seatpost and a couple other changes. The 86 Compe II came with the new for 86 GT mags and the exact same components package as the 86 GT Pro Performer. Those decals are correct for the 85 and 86 models. Look in the museum for correct 87 decals. They're the ones with the yellow splash in them.

BTW, I restored this bike back to Spec right down to 1985 dated Dia-Compe brake cables that I paid Biaggio an arm and a leg for.

Re: 1985 Dyno Compe
I didn't mean to come off sounding mad. Sorry about that.
The 85 and early 86 D-30s came with the single plate. That proved to be a week spot in the frame and many of them cracked at that spot. Later in 86 a second lower plate was added for strength. In 87 the ProCompe came with the two plates boxed in which strengthened the spot even more. Still sounds funny to hear Dyno and Toys-r-us in the same sentence. Pacific is running all the former quality brand names into the dirt, just to turn a profit. Scumbags.

Re: 1985 Dyno Compe
Paulie - did the Japan made 85's not have Dyno stamped in the plate behind the seatpost mast? Reason I ask is I have an 85 Compe that was made in Japan, since the serial is on the bb and there is a "made in japan sticker one it." It is a sweet survior. It looks just like yours but has the original stickers, white seat post and GT Pro Performer bars. I will get some pics of it up here on the site some time.

Re: 1985 Dyno Compe
It should have a stamp. The GT factories had some quality control issues though with respect to stamping though. I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't get a stamp. I have a Japanese early 86 single plate frame that does have the stamp. Does the SN on yours start with a G6?

Re: 1985 Dyno Compe
Yep, that's an 85. Some of those frames had very light stamps that actually got completely filled in with thick coats of paint at the factory. I didn't think mine even had a serial number until I stripped the original paint.

I agree that the SR cranks and plastic pedals were not standard issue on this bike. But still, this thing is NICE!!! Super 85 buddy.

SR tubular cranks and SR plastic pedals were absolutely standard issue for this bike. This was built to stock 1985 Compe spec. I spent over 2 years looking for the parts. Same component package as the 85 GT Performer.
