1983 Raleigh Blue Max

Rare Canadian Model Raleigh BMX

No , it's not a Blue Max , it's a RALEIGH Blue Max ...
These were only sold in Canada , the higher end model was the exact same but had 3 piece cranks instead . ( had one too ! )
These were very desirable BITD and i've heard a lot of talk about these from old school racers .
This one is pretty much all original except for the wheels , tires , pegs , and seatclamp bolt .
I have the original wheels in storage too ( blue ano large flange hubs , extra gauge 36 spokes , steel rims )
Needs a bit of cleaning and a new chain , but this one is in great shape , I'm planning to keep it for a long time .
My friend had one too , but it got stolen eventually and this is the only Raleigh Blue Max that i know of in existence .
Pretty rare !

Re: 1983 Raleigh Blue Max

This is the bike that changed my life forever. The one dreamed of until my parents bought it for my birthday. It was such a revelation to me as a child that you could ride a bike on dirt.. all terrain! I dreamed about this bike until I finally got it and then we were inseparable. I explored the world on this bike. I remember being so excited by the fact that all the components were anodized blue. Totally rad. The first things replaced on mine were the grips. Blue Cobra grips. Then I bought some white Peregrine mag wheels and finally upgraded the frame and fork and handlebars to a Redline PL 20... in essence switching to a whole new bike. That little Raleigh Blue Max opened up my universe and created a passion that's lasted a lifetime. Thanks for posting this rad bike.

It's a Raleigh Blue Max!

PS - I grew up in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Awesome story about your first bike !

Funny , I got this bike when I was living in Halifax , had 2 Blue Max bikes then .

My best friend had one , all pimped out with blue ano and new school wheels , got stolen from inside his building .

This is the only Blue Max I know of left in existence !

I've never seen another one anywhere in Canada , maybe they were just sold on the east coast ?

Re: 1983 Raleigh Blue Max

Yes yes yes. Maritime Billiards. smile That's where I got mine. I obsessed over that bike forever before getting it. Blue anodized Araya rims, and hubs, with matching blue anodized brake levers and brake calipers and seat post clamp and stem (I believe). I'll post a pic of mine in action. I had painted the frame white and replaced the crank with a 3 piece red crank.

Lemme go find that picture and throw it onto my server.

Sorry about the size, but it's a very old scan from home.
