1979 Raleigh R11 XL

Raleigh R11 XL. All other R11's are stickered as a Rampar, this one is stickered as a Raleigh R11, even on the forks.
I have never seen or heard of another Raleigh R11 XL.

All original?

Fuan, Oakley copy grips.
WIN slant stem.
OGK style tuffs (they have GREAT in an oval stamped on them) with metal flange hubs.
Sugino sprocket.
Snake Belly Tyres.
Velo seat.
Shimano Tourney brakes with DX levers.

Made with Reynolds tubing, claimed to be lighter and stronger than cromo tubes.
It isn't a light weight.

I listed it as a 1979 as all others in the Museum are listed as 1979.
Any info would be great.

Nice Rampar.
As I'm lookin for info on my Rampar, I came across yours.

What have you found out?

I'm looking for the following frames, frame & forks or completes by BMX products:
MotoTrac (nickle or chrome), Racer-X or a Super-X (with the double gussets preferred).
Thanks wink

Re: 1979 Raleigh R11 XL

Not much, I thought the Raleigh experts would be all over this as I've never seen another "Raleigh" R11XL. ?????

I've never seen another one in person, but here's one posted:

I think I've seen one or two others posted either at Radbmx or Vintage.

Re: 1979 Raleigh R11 XL

There are about 3 others in the Museum but they are all RAMPAR R11XL's. They are stickered Rampar on the forks and frame with a Rampar head badge, done for the US market. Mine is a Raleigh R11XL with Raleigh head badge, and decals and while it's a minor difference it would suggest it was made for sale outside the US. I've never seen another and don't know how rare it is.

Sounds like you have a rare one like mine.
At least yours is together(complete) and not in pieces like mine, that I have to piece back together.
