"As a seller every item sold on ebay valued under $250 has to have delievery confirmation or a tracking number that way you show you have proof of shipping it and the buyer recieving it"....

This is a great well informed article yet i just wanted to point out that USPS tracking numbers are useless once that item crosses the border into Canada. Canada post and USPS to not work together in this regard. I know UPS items shipped to Canada provide useable tracking info and that should be the way you ship to Canada to avoid any issues.

That is GREAT info to have thanks!  Just sent a package to Australia with USPS and they told me that the Customs form number also works as a tracking number...any experience with that?

Re: Helpful tips Ebay Paypal what you didnt know

As far as trying to get your money back for a item not as described or damaged. this has to be taken up with the seller. If they prove with tracking its been shipped and deleivered its not paypal problem.

not true.

ive received a refund on more then one occasion due to seller not selling what they said.

ive recieved a refund for brakes sold as dia compe that were really lee chee
and rims sold as araya that were really sumo

...added....

i bought a dia compe brake set. it shows up and its a lee chee.
i then contacted paypal with a dispute and explained that the
auction said dia compe when the part is lee chee and i provided
pics of what was sent.

i got my money back BUT i had to provide a tracking number
of the brakes goign to the next buyer.

so i was still out a few bucks because i had to spend that money
shipping the wrong part to another unsuspecting member.

and that totally blew.

the sumo rim deal went the exact same way. they only gave
me my money because i sent them to the next buyer.

if this happens i suggest you take it up with paypal before the seller.
dealing with the seller first has only got me the shaft due to him/her
emptying the money before paypal can refund mine.

Great stuff man. Its funny Ive done sooo many different things when shipping stuff from the, putting two priorty boxes together for bars, to "my favorite" turning priority boxes inside out and using them as regular shipping boxes!big_smile

They're getting keen to this however, they are now printing priorty on the insides of the boxes now too on alot of them.sad

Exactly how i ship bars, haven't found another way that's any better!  Didn't know about them printing on the inside too...
Guess i'll have to watch for that lol...

Anybody have international shipping tips??

I have shipped stuff all over the world..no kidding. The best way to ship international is the smaller the package the better, if your shippiing a complete, use two boxes and send everything USPS Also never trust the online quote.. take it in and make sure your measurements are right on the package.

Re: Helpful tips Ebay Paypal what you didnt know

paypal printed usps labels are not always cheaper. alot of people on here have complained about getting item back for insufficent postage. so dont state what is not always true.

also if your packing larger/heavier items dont use tha 2mil packing tape. get reinforced  packing tape like the movers use. it will stick better and hold stronger and take more abuse.

No
You should awlays put Delivery Confirmation on any item sent
You need a tracking number.......if someone decides to make a claim agaisnt you!
The only way to prove you sent is with a Delivery Confirmation or tracking......something that says that person recieved!
If you cannot provide that proof.....even if you have a receipt.....paypal with automatically favor the buyer and you will lose the claim even if it was only a $20

bottom line

you got paid with paypal
Send with tracking....or they will use the old paypal flaw to rip you off!
No tracking = Automatic Loss on the paypal claim!

That really sucks for us Canadians as i send out a lot of small packages in re used small flat rate boxes (cover them in brown paper) and if i am shipping out stuff like seatpost clamps, cables, dirt skirts etc without tracking it costs 7.77 if i want tracking on it is 15.31. sad

Good thing there is a lot of honest people here as i have never had a package go "missing"

Re: Helpful tips Ebay Paypal what you didnt know

This web site ties Google maps and the USPS delivery confirmation system together. I always use it when emailing delivery confirmation info.

http://usps.ems-tracking.net/?utm_sourc … pstracking

Here it is with an example of a completed shipment: (make sure you scroll down to see the map)

http://usps.ems-tracking.net/usps-track … 1444211905

Also... when taping two USPS Priority Mail boxes together... make sure they are NOT FLAT RATE boxes!!!
They will often not accept them once the box has been modified. They can be very picky about that.

Good post Steven smile

Re: Helpful tips Ebay Paypal what you didnt know

When printing shipping labels at home (from PayPal or stamps.com) what kind on paper stock do you use? (brand etc.)

I do not have a "label" printer, just a normal color printer. I would imagine there is a pre-cut, self adhesive type paper... but what dimension is correct?

Do I need two different sized pre-cut label stock for :
1) Delivery confirmation shipping
2) parcel post shipping labels?

And what happens if my printer or I screw up the print job? Can you re print the same shipping label without being charged twice? I would imagine that is not an issue, but having never used the on line purchase of postage... I think it is a good question.  I am way behind the times in this area of life. Old school I guess. smile Heck... I still love coaster brakes... difficult to change some things you know.

Thanks in advance for any help. big_smile

Re: Helpful tips Ebay Paypal what you didnt know

I've always printed my shipping labels on the USPS website-and
I just use my 'regular' Epson printer. I'm 'pretty sure' that when you
click 'print a label' on the PayPal site, you're taken to the USPS site to
actually print your label anyway...I clicked it one time on the PayPal
site-just to see what would happen-anf it took me to the USPS site to
actually print the label!

I only ship using Priority Mail because they'll pick up my packages
at my front door, which saves me a trip to the Post Office-and you get a
Delivery Confirmation number, which allows you to track your delivery...
and it doesn't 'cost extra' to get the number! You do pay extra if you
want to add insurance!

I don't know if there are adhesive-backed labels made for this or
not,as I just use 3M package sealing tape to affix my labels.

I just use regular paper and tape it on with clear tape. if you screw up you can reprint by either going back to the transaction of the print job and there with be a reprint label tab. I have had to use it many times. glad you are considering using the online postage. It saves me so much time. I rarely ever go to the post office anymore. They pick up all my stuff at my front doorstep. feel free to contact me with any questions , I would be glad to help u out!
