1981 GT 26

This is a bike i had back in 1981 built as a beach cruiser with coaster brake.

I sold this bike to a friend in 1982 for 250.00 bucks all i had into it at the time,it was built as a beach cruiser with flanders motorcycle bars mounted to a tough neck, gold araya 7x with a coaster brake, and a old brooks saddle. This bike hung in his garage for over 20 years and was rode vary little, then about 5 years ago i visited my friend and noticed the GT 26 was missing and i asked him where it was and he said he gave it to a friend for free.I tracked down his friend and was able to buy the bike back,i took it apart and rebuilt it as a 26 bmx racer with the cooks bars and stem off my king sting, got a set of gold and blue bullseye hubs and laced them in the 7x rims, put 401 flights with suntour sealed bmx pedals and philwood spider, and a nos kashimax mx seat.
UPDATE-10-18-11
It now has GT 1st gen cruiser bars and a pro neck II stem as seen in the first pic.

Re: 1981 GT 26

The bars are 29 inches wide,i have had them for over 30 years and do not remember cutting them, but i have heard they come 31 inch so i might have cut 1 inch off each end.

Re: 1981 GT 26

This frame was one of the first made my friend Thomas Gilson who still races Cruisers is who i got it from in 81 says he got it from Gary Turner himself,Thomas grew up with the Turners and has one of the first bikes Gary ever made a 75 monoshock.I don't remember much about the monoshock but would love to see it again but he now lives far away and he might bring it to a show someday he said.
