1982 GT Pro
My Wings - The result of over 30 years of parts, racing and cruisin' - one bike, still going strong.
Starting with a new purple schwinn banana in 1976, then a used yellow/black Murray with shocks on the seat and a spring setup in front, this is what ended up as my current ride. It had many, many second hand early frames and parts including ashtabula, mongoose, huffy, acs, skyway, lester, webco, mcs, tange, torker, pro neck, DK, suntour, shimano, suzue, bullseye, etc. until I bought these 81 forks new off the wall. Next year I bought the 82 frame, it took some cash and a major brand decision to do this back then, but a chrome GT was it for me! All current parts were bought new throughout the years when necessary. I went through many 1 pc and alum 3 pc until I got the '80 flight cranks. I ran CW Pro bars for years until GT made an XL PRO bar (XT), at 6'4", I waited forever for something bigger, then a H XL stem. This bike is unrestored and has been raced in OH, TN, KY, FL, NBL, ABA, REBEL, etc., and countless rides and trips throughout the USA over the years either in the trunk, strapped to the rear or flying coach. At 40 years old ('07), I still take it out religiously, even though the parts have changed over the years, I remember them all and these wings will be buried with me.

Re: 1982 GT Pro
hi , thats a great story ! it reminds me that thats how we built up our bikes
save some money , buy a new stem .then swap your wheels with some guy
then break your opc crank and buy a new one !!
thats how my bikes went ...started as one thing....ended up as totally different !
we used to swap parts over for a couple of days and if we liked the parts it would be permanent , if we didnt we would swap back.so you kinda tried out a lot of stuff over the years.

Re: 1982 GT Pro
This is hands-down the coolest bike I have ever seen. Your love for it and your history is so apparent -- and giving me some serious motivation to start my own restoration project!! THANKS!!
