Re: Frames - Haro
OK, Heres some information on the 1984 US made Torker produced Haro frames....
1st up - Generation 1 Haro Master.
Production of these frames began in March of 1984 straight after the last of the original Haro Freestylers were produced.
Torker Serials in the right hand rear dropout. T - For Torker - two letters for the month - 3 - 4 numbers for the manufacturing sequence and then the letter F for sreestyle. The first Generation 1984 master and sport both have similar serial formats to the 82/83 freestylers. These bikes were manufactured in Fullerton, California in the Torker (Johnson Engineering) facility.
example
Other key Charateristics
Twin Top Tubes
Available in White or Chrome plate only for this year
no chevrons stamped in the gusset
Flat (non Flared) dropouts
A consistent thickness of tubing from the top tubes down to the dropouts. The generation 2 framesets have tapered tubing and this will follow in a similar thread.
Machined Bottom Bracket and Head tube
Coaster Bracket beneath the rear left hand chain stay almost identical to the 82/83 freestylers
Fully welded headtube gusset
Gusset behind the bottom bracket shell

Note that the original decals had a darker green band than some of the restored frames. Decal guys have continually struggled to accurately reproduce the original colour up to this day.
Examples of both below starting with the original colour..
and now the more recent reproductions
2nd Generation 1984 Haro Master
Once again, these frames were only available in white or chrome plate
Serial format changed to a longer sequence which is easier to follow, as follows...
T for Torker, two number for the month (i.e. 08 - August), two numbers for the year (i.e. 84) 4 x numbers for the manufacturing sequence and the letter M for Master
example of an August 1984 produced 1984 us made master
The 2nd Generation 1984 Masters were also produced in Fullerton by Torker. These went into manufacture in late July, the same month that the 1st Generations ceased.
Characteristics...
Tapered tubing towards the dropouts, example....
2nd Generation...
Ist Generation...
Coaster bracket moved to the top of the rear left chainstay. The bracket was also a bit thinner and i have never seen a survivor frame that has not been damaged and disfigured where a coaster brake has been used.
The dropouts on the 2nd generation models were also "flared" on the bottom edge to add strength and reduce flexing, particularly as the rear end of the frame had been tapered and effectively weakened.
example 2nd generation...
example 1st generation...
the second generation framesets were identical to the first generation in every other aspect.

Notice slight damage to the coaster bracket where a coaster brake had been used

This is a NOS 2nd generation frameset , the only one in existence

Ill add more detail as it becomes available. Gen 1 and 2 US made Sports to follow soon.... ![]()

96 (I beleive) Shredder. Still have the original 1pc cranks that go with the sprocket. Everything was there with the exception of front brake, gyro, pedals and original grips. Although it did have alloy GT pedals on the 1pc cranks that were missing from my 01 Vertigo when i got it. ![]()

My 8 year olds 18" Haro. Still trying to determine exactly what it is but it has 14mm axles, now has the gyro back on it and had Haro 3pc cranks that the previous owner kept.
