1976 Redline Squareback
1976 Redline Squareback
Just rode it for the first time in probably 25 years. Yes, I think I shed a tear or maybe it was just a bug.....memories!
This is my bike that I got in 1979 or so for Christmas. You can see what kind of shape it was in and how far along it has come. My 10 year old son and I have spent the last couple of weeks tearing it down and putting it back together with as many stock parts as we could salvage and NOS if we could find it. Just have to put the stickers on and new pads when they come in and it will be complete.

Wow. Love it when the true vintage metal re-surfaces.
Whenever someone says, "I'm not book smart, but I'm street smart," all I hear is, "I'm not real smart, but I'm imaginary smart."

It looks great and if not for the good memories you probably would have let go of it a long time ago. Just think now your son can also ride the bike his ole man once terrorized the streets with. Good save!

That's beautiful. Great save. I agree that black tires and a black chain would knock it out of the building, but as-is it's very cool.

Looking for pre 1981 Redline MXII f/f with original black paint and decals.

Re: 1976 Redline Squareback
My son wanted the red tires and the red chain so what is a dad to do. I actually like it and I ride it as much as he does. I have the center pad being shipped and trying to find a new handle bar pad. Stickers will be on this week and I will update the pics.
I never did race but I rode the mess out of it back on the trails where I grew up. Even tied a rope to it one time and rode out over a big ditch.....that was not dangerous at all!
More pics to come.

The original frame pad dry rotted and I tried to put new snaps on and condition it but did not have any luck.
I used Maquires metal polish that I use on my polished mustang wheels. It works really well and I have not even used the electric buffer on it. So far all was done by hand.
