1996 Fishbone FBP
1996 Fishbone FBP
( FOR SALE ) Unique MYSTERY FISHBONE FROM CANADA ? ? 1ST ON THE MUSEUM ! !
Got this one from Ontario, Canada. A unique whip for sure ! ! I know of 3 other Fishbone frames: Kong Fu, Big Ass, and the Ninja, but I've never seen another frame like this. I think this frame must be older than the other 3 frames because this one has the now outdated 1 in. threaded forks on it, not threadless like the other 3. I searched on the net for hours and I could not find anything, not even a picture of this exact model Fishbone frame. I'm amazed at the lack of info on Fishbone at all, I could'nt find a single website that could tell me alittle history on the company. So please share some info if you know something I don't. I don't even know what this bike is called, the stickers read FBP and double gusset. I'm assuming it's called the FBP, Fish Bone Product ? ? Maybe, but I think Fishbone is one word. Please help me unravel this mystery, I'm dying to know ! !

Re: 1996 Fishbone FBP
I have this exact frame! My friend found it while he was walking home and it had a sign saying "free",so he took it and gave it to me as a bonus when I bought his Brodie Thumper. Much like you,I had a hard time finding info, but did find a pic of it in a Ebay.ca Ontario Police auction. It said "Fishbone Double Gusset",which leads me to believe they didn't know what it was either. $30 is what they were asking for it. From what I've found out,"Fishbone" is actually "Gary Fisher" after he soldout to overseas.Made in the Philipines is what one of the decals on my frame reads.
I'd post a pic,but I COMPLETELY disassembled it as I had no space for it and needed a few of the parts for other bikes... Used the bars and grips on a Gary Fisher, actually! ![]()
The bars you have are awesome!! And rare,as far as I know. Not the same as I got. I do however have a set of chrome bars with the Fishbone decal, just like yours and they are almost identical to the bars on my '97 Haro Shredder Super Deluxe. I say 'almost' because the other ones are stamped Haro. The welds are the same great qaulity though.
Hope this info helps. Cheers.
I collect and restore chrome BMX bikes.

Re: 1996 Fishbone FBP
That's so strange that you mentioned the "police auction", Cause that's actually where my bike came from.
The fellow I bought it from said he got it at a police auction somewhere near Ontario CANADA.
It's a small world afterall. This really must be a rare find, the only picture available on the
net is the same exact bike ? wow !
Well, thanks for the helpful info.....Nick

Re: 1996 Fishbone FBP
I have a fishbone Big Ass bike for sale. I believe I may also have a Fishbone "strait up" stem somewhere as well. The strait up stems were 100% zero off set 1 1/8 setups where you had to drill a hole in your bars so the front break cable could go through as the stem set the bars right in line with the fork tubes !

Re: 1996 Fishbone FBP
I have the exact same bike right now. I'm so glad that I found out some info on it. I thought it was one of those no-name brand bikes when my parents got it for me and for a while I was disappointed because all my friends had haros and mongooses and I hade a unknown bike brand. But now I know. The bike is awesome. Never gave me any trouble. It's a bit heavy but that's it. Only replacement I made was the tires and brake cabels. Im so glad I found out more about my bike.

Re: 1996 Fishbone FBP
No, I'm in the UK £4.00 is what I paid. only wanted the front brake & alloy front sprocket. It's got lots of chips in the paint & extra stickers everywhere. Also, seat post is stuck. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it yet but it's a shame the smaller parts are missing as Fishbone bits tend to look good.

Re: 1996 Fishbone FBP
Hi I have one of these too....so in total I guess there are 3. These are so rare I have spent along time trying to get info too - due to the weight I dont think it's chromo. I have not rode it yet as I have many other over engineered frames from the 90's love it for that. Mines in Grey also but does not have any good components (yet). It will be worth something because its rare and damn ugly in a good way....so not sure if I should leave the paint alone or give it a refirb.
