ELF Serial Number Info
These are basic, cant figure out why it took me like a week to see how easy they where to read. an example of the serial numbers on my elf xl129548
Z Stands for ZR1
Cr Stands for cruiser
ex stands for expert frame
pro stands for pro frame
xl stands for xl frame 12= december the first 2 numbers represent the month 95= the year it was made so the so the 3rd and 4th numbers are the year it was built 48= the 48th bike of that model built that year
so xl129548 = xl frame built in dec 95 and was the 48th one built
ELF Stands for Extra Light Frame
Now to tell what model your elf is:
All factory team models from 95-97 (or around there) came with profile 3 piece cranks and 44tooth profile chain wheel. this is the only way to tell if you had or have a factory team issue. all other models came with 1 piece cranks so far the only diffrence i have found between team and the other models are the cranks
Titainum elf hubs where made and had to be special ordered from elf to get them either the bike shop would order with there bike or a customer had to order. that being said all elf bikes from 95-97 came with elf sealed aluminum hubs 36 spoke double wall rims, 2.25 tioga comp 3 front tire and 1.75 tioga comp3 rear tire - the elf minis these years might be the same as the 3 piece profile cranks but i am not for sure
According to dans comp ad from 1997 they weighed 15.5oz and were a few pennies under $150
Elf Flip Flop Hubs
$99.99
$149.99 Titanium
Elf Flip Flop Hubs are available in 36 hole. The color available for the hubs section is Silver. These hubs are constructed of Titanium sleeve and Aluminum flanges and weigh 20.0 ounces in the regular version and 15.5 ounces in the Titanium version.
Chris Moeller bought their tooling (machinery) when they shut down in the 90s and i don't think anybody now owns the name
Elf Tractionplate model aluminum elf race frame dont know much about it other than not many made at all i know they made a 20inch and 24 inch not sure if you could buy as a whole bike or if you just got frame or frame and fork if these bikes where built as a full bike i could almost guarantee this would have come with titianum hubs
THIS IS THE ELF RACE MODEL THAT STANDS ABOVE THE REST OF ELF RACE BIKES
Elf DX-III and the Tractionplate look alot alike, there is a diffrence in the chainstays there frames where made from 97 till elf shut its doors, Elf also made the Shaker witch was there freestyle bike.
Just found info that elf was a family buisness and at one point in time they made frames out of the garage!
If you know more info would love for comments please correct me if i am wrong on any stats hope this helps you guys and gals
out
PLEASE BE NICE if you do know info about elfs and i have some stuff wrong rember trying to help people
Since 2011 Elf has been back in buisness and American made, Danb on this site is the owner of elf now. His website is elf-bicycles.com

Nice bike and thanks for the info. I think the last numbers are for the month, I just bought a f/f and the serial is xl0795142. Now I'm looking for some parts to bring it back. I'll put some pics up soon, gonna put together with what I have laying around now.

Re: ELF Serial Number Info
CR29518 is mine started puttin' it together back in '95 (bought new) I was unable to finish at that time, been so long since I unlocked it from the rafter in the garage that I had to break out the dremel and cut the lock, obviously hadn't seen the key in awhile, so I call a local bike shop in East Co. (San Diego) according to the ad "specialized in BMX only" I didn't see the small print, pretty much only New School and 20", so he suggested I try another store, drove out there, All that they had for me was a seat clamp, oh also had a generic korean stem........I'm wonderin' how tough it's going to be to get these parts left to complete.....

I do have the 6pc. blaster bars, need Stem and post, seat post, seat........

I have an ELF catalog from the 90s. Does anyone have any info on the aluminum frame that they came out with later on before they closed down?

hey cool! I got an 89 too. This was my last race bike before I retired from racing, I bought it new back in 89, and it has no serial number on the dropouts, or the bb shell. It was a frame and fork set and I built it up really nice. This is also the 24, it has the sleaved tubes, one larger tube with the main top a and down tube slipped in and then welded, kinda double butted. has the black and white stickers still on it, and the fork that has a slight forward/backward bend to it. is that the fork you're talking about? some day I'll post a picture, don't have my camara here today. I love this bike! feels like it can go out there and still do pretty good in the old guys class....

Re: ELF Serial Number Info
sounds like you got a road bike headset, if you're going to ride it and keep it for ever (why not) get a king 1 inch threaded headset, it's about 130 bucks, it will last for ever. look at the blue one on the double cross in this thread.... artwork. worth every penny, and made in USA! there are also some cheap chrome ones that will work fine, just like the old ones we used to run on the stock mongooses.

ur bike is a 93 and it was very posible that 197 bikes in the mini series were made that year elf was the aba bike of the year and had alot of bikes being sold then. i believe that lots more local bike shops picked up elf in 92 93 because the name was starting to get big in the racing seen.

Re: ELF Serial Number Info
The Elf name was bought on august of 2011 BY myself and started making parts right away the first 5 frames were aluminum 4 Pro XLs and 1 Pro then i decided to make a Chromo frame so in 2011 there was a total of 7 frames made 1 PRo and 1 chromo the numbering system is the same. Jan 2012 I released 20 pro XL frames in chromo and 7 cruisers. to date there is about 30 pair of ELF T-bone cranks that have been made this is the first time that ELF has made cranks, 30 sets of the new Blast bars (modeled after the 1997 blast bar) 4 pairs of forks have been made, 1 stem to date , Just encase anyone is keeping track
today is Feb 1 2012 and we are moving forward with more product
by the way we own the trademark ELF and we also own the domains along with Double cross and any other name that is associated with ELF. look for new designs and product this year
We are the only Company that Ken Pedergraft has ever given consent to restart ELF and we talk to Ken about Ideas all the time. I try to keep Ken the OG owner as close to be involved as we can or that he wants to be
