1999 Schwinn 36-24-36

Here is my 1999 Schwinn Andrew Faris 36/24/36 frame kit that I made into a complete bike. This frame kit was only made for 1 year since the 1998 model was the Powerflow and the 2000 model was the the Azreal. This is a super rare frame kit and the frame, fork and stem were USA made. When I worked in a Schwinn bike store the original MSRP was $799 for the frame kit and I have a 99 dealer catalog and 99 BMX Plus buyers guide to confirm that price. I found the kit last year still brand new in the back room of a bike store that was going out of business because of the bad economy. The owner sold it to me for only $200, which I think was a great deal considering that this is like finding the holy grail of Schwinn flatland bikes. I had alot of bmx museum members asking me for pics of the bike, so I decided to post the bike on the museum. Theres only 2 of these frames currently on the museum besides mine. So I though there would be alot of members who would want to see it and to help others identify the frame kit if they had one and didnt know what it was and try to put it together. Heres some parts on the bike
Schwinn seat with blue sides
Schwinn stinger blue grips with sparkles
Odyssey Hamilton blue pedals (clear plastic)
Kenda Kontact, blue walled tires (1.95 width and 65 Psi)
Odyssey aluminuim bar ends
Lead-Tech 4 peice flatland handlebars
Zoom micro-adjustable aluminium seat post (25.4mm or 1 inch)
Hoffman seat clamp (1 and 1/8)
Odyssey Moduler brake levers
Schwinn stem (1 and 1/8 threadless) American made, CNC'ed aluminium
Schwinn alumiunum sprocket from 1999 (40 tooth) the bike can use up to a 43 tooth sprocket also
Odyssey 15 tooth freewheel
Odyssey Phat Widow cranks, 165mm length arms with sealed cartridge bearings, 19mm chromoly axle and the arms are made of 7005 aircraft grade cold forged aluminuim
GT Rythem System generation 2 sealed cartridge bearing Hubs (36 hole and flip flops) 3/8 inch (10mm axles)
Araya RB-J1 Himiko double walled aluminium rims, 1.75 width and chrome plated, Made in Japan with extra high sidwalls, 36 hole
Tektro FX-15 brakes with linear springs
Gyro XL (cable detangle)
GT aluminium pegs (oversized 50mm instead of normal 38mm) with anti spin screws, 3/8 inch holes (same pegs as the GT Show and Dyno Slammer)
Schwinn 100% chromoly fork, American made, with a CNC machined fork crown
Dia-Compe SB-1, cold forged steel, 1 and 1/8 inch Aheadset
Schwinn 100% chromoly frame, American made, tig welded with custom chain stay yoke that was intended for hardcore flatland freestyle

Re: 1999 Schwinn 36-24-36

Yeah I have wanted this frame since I first saw it back in 1999. Its feels awesome to finaly have it. I have actualy gotten to ride it, now that the weather is nice and it handles amazing. I have noticed that my neighbors give me weird looks now that they see me riding a pink bike. I like the sparkly pink personaly, but to people who dont know what a special bike it realy is, they probly think I stole a little girls bike. I couldnt even order one back in 99 when I worked at the bike store since aparantly they were hard to get a hold of. So the frame set that I have just sat in a store in new york because no one was man enough to ride a pink bike. I am glad you like it also since no one I know realy seems to like it, but I guess you have to know the history of the bike and what it is. You have a awesome Schwinn collection yourself. This was basicaly the only midschool Schwinn that I never got to own and ride and it feels good to finaly get to have one.  Thanks for the comment and I always like to see when other people comment on my bikes and tell me what they think of them.

"Look at that dude riding a little girls bike!!"  lol

Rockin' the pink frame must have been hard on Andrew Faris too. His next signature frame, the Azrael, is gloss black and covered in skull/reaper decals!

Have to admit this frame set is tops on my Schwinn wish list. Just have to look at yours until I get one. cool

Re: 1999 Schwinn 36-24-36

The only thing that I personaly think the Azreal has over the 36/24/36 is that its made of aluminium instead of chromoly. I love my GT Shows since they are aluminuim and have a light frame for a midschool bike. I personly like the crazy graphics on the 36/24/36 better than the Azreal, since it gives the bike a bright and playfull look instead of the Azreals dark and serious look.

I love hearing stories about people finding stuff like this...

Any chance you could get a closeup shot of the chainstays/yoke?

"Only if she's 5'3"!" I think this bike was named after the line in the Sir Mix Alot song "Baby Got Back"

Re: 1999 Schwinn 36-24-36

I have had a few people think it was named after the song but I never heard Schwinn or Andrew Farris confirm it for sure.

I'd venture to say it was named after the Violent Femmes song and not that corny Sir Mix a Lot thing... wink

You are wrong. Sir Mix is all about The Femmes. Ain't corny Mix.

Thanks, I was wondering when I listed the bike on the bmx museum that everyone was going to make fun of me for having a pink bike with flower and rainbow decals but I am very happy to hear that alot of other people besides myself also like the bike.

Re: 1999 Schwinn 36-24-36

That looks awesome.  I've got a frame/fork/stem combo that I've kept in the box for years now; too many other projects and not enough time!  Since I'm new here, I'll try to figure out how to upload photos of a few of the other ones I've got too (Mean Street, El Jeffe, and Canadian Beast).

Re: 1999 Schwinn 36-24-36

I have one of these in excellent shape with some nice parts on it if someone might be interested still. I started to build it but stopped just a little short. I'd have to go see what alls on it, been sitting for some time now.
