Re: VECTOR INFO NEEDS TO BE POSTED HERE.

Do you see the pict above of the dropout with a serial # on it? It doesn't get any more real than that.

THAT is and never was in question....what I have been told for the last 5 years is that the serial numbes started in late 84 early 85 and continued from there.

Re: VECTOR INFO NEEDS TO BE POSTED HERE.

I believe what MSMXII said above about the earlier ones having serial #'s. I've got a Gen 3 frame with no serial visible at all. I also have a set of Bob Haro bars with no stampings either. I believe, as with some other manufacturers also, that information on Vector products is very elusive. No serial #s or stamping on the frames & no stamping on bars is evidence of how hard it is to date their products.

Also ads, BITD with no computers, are very rough visually. It's very interesting to look over ANY type of magazine prior to using computers for layouts, to see how the ads/articles were done. I've been professionally using computers for layout/photo retouching for 20 years and it amazes me to see what was done back then. Most younger people don't realize how difficult it was to create magazines then. Where I'm getting at, finding the ads for Vector isn't difficult, they just were not super hi-rez, didn't zoom into dropouts or stem shafts to see any of the info that would be great to identify parts or frames nowadays. I have posted all the handlebar ads in the Reference section as I could find, starting with 1979 and up. I don't think there are any more to find, at least in the US. I came across a cover of a UK magazine that did an bike test on the FS Unlimited, but I do not have the interior pages. This was in March of 1985. And thinking about it now, you can go online and download almost any bike manufacturer's PDF of their products or at least get a visual reference. No internet back then, no references except scans of ads/magazines.

Nice, not too many cruisers around, as well as the minis.

Yes and this further re-inforces my post regarding the serial #'s only being on the VDC made units. This frame in the picture is a 1st or 2nd gen VDC made Vector. You can tell from not only the presence of the serial # but from the stays as well. Notice how they have more of a flat, more rounded back where they come to an end. Now take a look at a 3rd or 4th Vector made frame and you will notice they come to a VERY sharp point.  And if it's a 4th gen the droputs have the newly acquited scalloped back side.

Great stuff!.. keep the pics and info flowing wink

Show me some dated ads/tests/sneek peeks with this dropout, I am not doubting you(much) but pictures from magazines with dates PROVE theories. wink

" dated ads/tests/sneek peeks" lol Ripley coudn't have said it any better.."believe it, or not!!"

And for those of you that did not know, the Bob Haro bars were not always named thus…
later they changed the name to Vector Unlimited bars.

Here is an old photo with Bob Haro and Mike Dominguez. Check out how low Bob's crossbar is. Never seen any Vector bars with them that low.

BINGO!! Nice first gen as evident from the decals, brake bridge, serial # and the seat stays that are welded to the top tube. All key ingredients of the first gen made by VDC. What's really scarce is the limited edition they did in black chrome, don't see many of them around, now or then. Nice setup with the LG, that's what i'm going to run with my Mark 2, i think wink

While researching the other day for something else, I came across this. It reminded me of Evan Atherton looking for stuff about his dad. Well this is him on a Vector in a color I have not seen since BITD. Post'em up if you got any picts of this frame/fork or complete. This is around mid-85.
