Re: Mongoose Builds! Mongoose Questions! Post them here...

Anyone here bothered by the fact that a Canadian company now owns MONGOOSE?

Heres my profound, life changing statement.
Lifes a bitch..PASS ME A BEER.

They're reacting and that's wonderful. It's better than them sitting there doing nothing. I say make them react - do whatever's in your power to move the audience, and if that's where it is, and there where it is with America, sex and violence, then I say project it.

What do you do when you can't find a Two Four Fork?

You build a 26/24.

It's not about owning the nicest things. It's about getting to play with them.

Re: Mongoose Builds! Mongoose Questions! Post them here...

New guy here, I just retrieved my old 80's Mongoose that has been unfortunately sitting outside for a bit.  The code on the bottom is CI0 and also 336688 which I believe means it is Sept 1980 vintage.  It has the motomags but they have some surface oxidation but seem solid.  It was originally back/yellow (similar to the 1979 Jag posted above) with black frame and yellow pads and uncoated/uncolored motomags.  In my youth I stripped the stickers off and sprayed it all flat black so it needs to be stripped an recoated with new decals.

Is sandblasting or beadblasting better than soaking it in an acid?

I've been reading and someone mentioned the bike isn't worth much due to the std steel handlebars, so I am thinking of just restoring it for personal nostalgia or to give to my kid.

Any other tips are appreciated.  I will likely need to rechrome things too.

Bead blasting should be ok. Price wise, it dos not matter. The nostalgia we have for our childhood bikes is priceless regardless of brand or model.  Restore it and have fun. big_smile
