Re: bored of the old school?
I like the old school for sure...but have mid and new school rides too. I ride a 2008 2Hip Lino in the park but before I bought that one I was riding my 86 Schwinn Predator Freeform Pro YO!
I am lately intrigued with cruisers more and more...keeping my mind fresh.

Re: bored of the old school?
When i started back into bmx i was all about midschool. All my bikes were mid 90s including dynos, robinsons, redlines. Then i caught bug of building old school bikes but the new school stuff has starting to intrigue me. Probably going to snatch up a 24 Sunday Model C and build one up and ride it.
I do plan on having a well respected member here powder it the wrong dayglo pink color before I install some 87 PFT team model decals on it.
I will call it NOS refinished so I can charge the big bucks too.

Re: bored of the old school?
Man, I came back to old school forums to recapture a little of the carefree feeling that BMX gave me back in the day.
Unfortunately, some people want to make things all about conflict, disapproval, and controversy. I guess that's normal (and something I find on other forums), but it really detracts from the enjoyment. I could walk around all day, expressing my disagreement with people about almost everything, but I don't because that would make me a pretty sorry human being.
Regardless of what anyone wants to do with their finds, I don't think it's worthy of all the hate.
I want bikes to be fun.

This issue is almost worthless in forum form. You wont get rational responces on the web, all you are gonna get are bike bigots from diffrent eras. I really like it when one school claims superiorority over another, it shows me that the poster of the comment is nothing more than a fool wrapped in his/her little part of the hobby without any real interest in the sport. Dont tell me you are a BMXer thru and thru if you cant relate to its history or its future. If your only here to collect one school, thats fine, no skin off my back, just dont call yourself a BMXer, call yourself a collector or a hobbyist. Nothing pisses me off more than some assbag preaching how his school of bikes had the best riders and equipment when most of the their school is the only school they know anything about.
This part of your post was unnecessary and extremely judgmental. I don't wish to attack you, but merely point out that what you have said in this post is exactly everything you just accused others you were attacking of doing. They are assbags? Bigots? Fools? They have no business being a BMXer yet only like a certain bike for their endeavors? Honestly, this post is wrong on a lot of different levels. The bottom line is, everyone has individual opinions. You should have saved yourself the headache and time and simply sated "people have opinions. If my opinion is that old school rules and new schools doesn't work for me, am I wrong?" or "I think the best looking bike ever is a GT PFT but my buddy thinks the Woody Strike Zone is the best looking ever, does that make him an assbag?" Opinions are neither right nor wrong. They are simply opinions. Nobody who thinks a certain bike or era is better than another deserves to be called the list of names you just called them. I'm sorry, no offense but, your post came accross as harsh for the wrong reasons.

As for the cookie cutter catalog bikes, If I wanted to see a catalog bike I will open a catalog, show me some creativity in your builds, show me what you wanted as a kid, not what the company wanted you to own.
This part, I agree with 100%. I'm restoring my Woody Strike Zone and I'm using parts and a paint scheme that i will be happy with. If the OG guys don't like it, than they'll have to accept it. It's not their bike.

Re: bored of the old school?
While i can agree and disagree with a lot of the posts on these threads isnt this the "museum". A place to show and record for posterity sake what bikes look like for future generations to see? One day 20 - 30 or 50 years from now hopefully this site is still around for future generations to see what bikes looked like.
BTW this is what i worked on over the winter. It is a mix of new, old, but mostly mid school as that is what i feel I am. Old school at heart yet this is the 21's century.

Re: bored of the old school?
I can't say I'm bored with Old School, because I love the personality and lines of the old bikes. On the other hand, I just can't afford what I want when it's available. I've kind of landed in the Solid/Standard/S&M appreciation stage of my BMX life for the last few months, but sfter seeing what guys are doing with the retro/tribute GT Show's, that's what I am going to do next. Build a fun "old" bike with new parts.
I am getting the last few parts together for a retro SE Quad Freestyle tribute. I'm more excited about this bike than any of my other builds or completes because it's exactly what I want, not what someone else thinks it should be. It's going to be kind of a weird conglomeration of old, mid and new school parts to get the look, feel and reliability I want in a daily rider

This post has inspired me to tear the following bike apart and do something with it. Seeing as how I am under house arrest and cannot go outside ![]()
It just sits there anyway. I have at least a new wheelset and some sealed, gt stamped profile 3 piece cranks I am gonna throw on her now!
Say bye bye...

Re: bored of the old school?
OK -- I can respect that you're bored with it. You're into other eras -- that's cool. But why start a thread that's going to end up being argumentative. Guys are just going to come into the thread and "defend their era." The defending is noble I guess, but overall it's just going to lead to a pissing match over which is the "best era" or the "best manufacturer.
Just my opinion. Carry on...

Re: bored of the old school?
Well, I guess just like "Nobody made you read this thread" could go the same way as "You don't have to look at the bikes you don't want to either"...
Not trying to start anything... we all got into this for different reasons. Yes, look at my bikes.. boring GT, Haro, Redlines... boring as hell to one, for another... childhood memories, brings me back to a time when I didn't have a job, life was good.... building homemade jumps, trying new tricks for the first time.... hopping curbs, local A&W, whatever...
These are the bikes I remember, I loved, I wanted... so I will keep building my boring bikes, sometimes I will restore (Mostly from already stripped frames, etc), sometimes I will keep as survivor (RL20II, PFT, D-Tour).
Also, as for restoring... I actively look for bikes that are stripped, or need restore... why?? The feeling I get when I bring it back to life, or maybe just to keep myself busy, keep my brain working on some level... show my friends... whatever. Makes me feel good, gives me a break from work, and everyday drab.
Now riding.... I have, and will ride every single bike I ever have... restored, survived... I don't care... bikes are made to be ridden in my opinion... so I will ride them. Now, I am not a great freestyler.. but it is still fun. I might try the track for the first time in my life this summer. If I really want to ride though... I will hit some singletrack with my Specialized Stumpjumper.
We all do it a little different, it isn't bad, heck, it might not be all good.... to each their own, why can't that just be OK???
I hope everyone enjoys their own little piece of bike heaven... no matter what it is... I don't criticize, agree to disagree, and move on... because I am happy here! ![]()
PEACE!!!!! ![]()

Re: bored of the old school?
i have to agree with Five - i too build boring bikes. i build boring bikes cuz that's what i had as a kid. but i build boring bikes and i ride them with my 8yr old son. that's the reason i am here.
sorry most of the boring builds on here don't quite entertain you. but you're certainly welcome to build your own rare bike or mid school bike without dissing on a whole era in general. if you come across certain bikes that don't entertain you - then why not just move along? i don't get this thread.
if you're bored with old school then move along to something else. it's as simple as that. you're probably a grown-up so handle it like one.

Re: bored of the old school?
I'm a 70's, old school guy. I tend to build bikes that are a bit different than the norm. I too get tired of the repetitive builds on the site's, but, it is what it is.
As for mid school and new school bikes; even though they're not my thing, I would never saw anything negative about them, it's just the evolution of the industry. I can appreciate how they handle and brake better than an old school bike, but without the old school bikes and the history of development , you wouldn't have what you have today.
To each his own... there's no wrong, right or better about this hobby. We all have something we dig, and I for one like sharing what makes me happy.
Here's some of my builds that are not your typical build. Is this what you're looking for? Something different... ![]()
