Kashimax Seat restoration how to post! Step by step. Check it out!
Drop the seat in boiling RIT dye and it will be done in a hour. This one dyed quicker and better.
http://bmxmuseum.com/forums/viewtopic.p … 5#p1794515
ORIGINAL POST;
Ok, I have not seen to much information nor could I find it so, here is what I did and learned in the process;
First I found a nice Kashimax Tioga RS in lavender. It was dirty with minor rash on the top back, and dirty/rusty guts. Seat rail minor pitting and dirt.

I scrubbed it with hot soap and water. Then used steal wool (0000) on the guts and rails and polished both with Mothers medal polish. I used a magic eraser on the seat sides to remove the silver Tioga RS emblems and remaining dirt which dulled the shiny finish of the sides.

Mix up the RIT dye in a bucket big enough for the seat. Used about 1 ½ gallon of hot! hot! water and the whole package of rid.

Soaked this bad boy for 17 hrs starting with super hot water!!!! (overnight) I found the longer the better. Someone else stated if you biol the water it infuses into the seat faster.
Decided at that point to try and remove the minor rash on the top rear of the seat because after the dye took the rash really came out on the black. It was not as noticable on the light color lavender. 250 grit sand paper followed by 600 wet dry did the trick.

Re heated the RIT again hot hot water dye solution on the stove and soaked the seat again for about 6 more hours.

Re-polished the lower part of the seat with a plastic polish (Nu finish car polish or sportbike plastic polish)and polishing rag, followed by re-applying the rear original Kashimax decal with an adhesive. It came out bad ass!!
Now I have to figure out what to put on the sides.

Hope this helps someone. I had to learn with this one and will be doing more in the future for sure.
Duane

Hope it helps a little. When the water is hot it seams to infuse it quicker. Not too hot it will melt the seat ![]()
Post up or send me pics when yours is done.

I did this with a white dominator. I turned it black. I suspended mine in a pot of boiling water with RIT dye. I let it boil for 30 minutes, came out amazing. As the plastic gets hot, the pores on the plastic open up and suck in the new color. I did a set of white tuffs also.

So even with the water boiling the seat did not melt? I was scare to make the water to hot and just soaked it for a longer period instead. Damn 30 min did the trick in boiling water! Maybe that is the way to go.

There is a thread in the Forums on dying dominators and tuffs. The tuffs only took me and hour...

Let us know what you put on the side, if you go back with "Tioga" or something different, I'm sure it will just as clever as the resto on the seat!

By the way if you have never bought decals from this seller in the UK, They are the best on eBay.

Many Many Many purchases not one complaint. Fast shipping and it is obvious really care about what they do.

I second this...I bought some decals recently from them and they are flawless. Also if you have a scan of you decals or pics with measurments they will try and duplicate them for you.

LOL I figure if the seat is rough to start with it might not come out as good. I look for the ones with minor damage. Road rash repair is tricky.

you could get quite creative with this technique by masking the bottom part for a 2 tone seat or mask small squers for a checker board efect! if some one trys post some pics?
