1981 Puch Trak-Pro

hard to find!

This bike has a great story. Over the summer my wife noticed this bike in someone's yard parked under a pine tree a mere two miles from my house. I drive down there later that day to make an offer. Turns out it belongs to an 11 year old boy, and he's not home. I give his mom my number, and he never calls me. Three months go by, and I figured what the hell so I go back down to his house to try to buy it. Once again, the kids not home. His mom told me he wanted to sell it, but she lost my number! Three days later and my wallet 50 bucks lighter I own the bike!
Puch was an Austrian bicycle and moped company who dabbled in BMX for a few years. I'm guessing this is an '81, it could be an '82 or '83. I believe by '84 Puch was done with BMX. Speed Unlimited in New Jersey made the Puch frames alongside Thruster and some early Hutch stuff.
This bike has some nice parts. Thruster bars, Thruster fork, Tuff II coaster, Sugino CTs. Even has the chainguard. Awesome welds.

Dayyum That Is a Nice score for 50 Bucks.Great Story and History Lesson .Sweet Sugino Cranks and Skway Mags.   I had two Puch mopeds I bought off a neighbor for eighty bucks when I was sixteen.I used to catch small air off my kickramp on them.I had fun ripping down Burts Pit road on them.    I had no idea they made BMX.

Re: 1981 Puch Trak-Pro

Sweet bike smile

I had one of these BITD - no idea what happened to it, can't remember for the life of me...

I do remember transferring those handlebars over my Trick Star F/F for about a year, since I built up my Trick Star from a F/F (couldn't afford a complete!)  You can see the bars them in my avatar to the left if you look closely.

Never seen a set of bars like that before or after the Puch.  Thanks for sharing, brings back memories!
