1979 SE Racing P.K. Ripper
1979 SE Racing P.K. Ripper
1979 SE RACING PK RIPPER SE TAN WITH ORIGINAL PARTS RESTORED
I GOT THIS BIKE FROM SANTA CLAUS 1979 CHRISTMAS MORNING. HE GOT IT AT BIKE PEDDLER IN NASHVILLE TN. THIS BIKE WAS RACED AT DIXIE LAND RACE TRACK. THIS BIKE HAS BEEN RESTORED BACK TO THE ORIGINAL SE TAN. IT STILL HAS THE ORIGINAL SQUARE TUF NECK, SUN TOUR FRONT AND BACK HUBS, AND THE 1.75 ARRAYA RIMS, 175 TACAGI CRANKS, PHIL WOOD SPIDER, AND SUN TOUR FRONT SPROCKET. THE FRAME, SE BARS, AND UNSTAMPED LANDING GEAR FORKS HAVE BEEN FRESHLY POWDER COATED. THE CRANKS AND THE SE SEAT POST HAVE BEEN RE-CHROMED. THE HEADSET IS BEAR TRAP 2 AS WELL AS THE TIOGA BB-22E BOTTOM BRACKET. THE DIA-COMPE BRAKES AND LEVER ARE SWEET, AS WELL AS THE SHIMANO PD-MX15 PEDALS. TO COMPLETE THE BIKE I PUT SOME RAINBOW COMP III FAT SKINNY TIRES AND AN AERO SEAT. HOPE YOU ENJOY IT AS MUCH AS I DO, IT'S BEEN A FUN PROJECT!

Thanks for adding the extra pics, that thing is sick! Is it me or is the decal upside down on the fork (left)?
Btw, welcome to the Museum.

Re: 1979 SE Racing P.K. Ripper
I say you leave it. Adds character and also shows that SE (along with other manufactures) made "mistakes". I bet it was a late friday or a early monday decal placement!!! ![]()

Re: 1979 SE Racing P.K. Ripper
Your description says its restored to its original tan, but it sure looks white to me.
I have seen original decaled Landing Gear that the left side was upside down, more than once. Not completely uncommon.
There were roughly 500 round top tube PK's built.
If you have had this since it was new, I'd think long and hard before selling it.

Re: 1979 SE Racing P.K. Ripper
The round top tube PK frames have sold for between $1000 and $1500 pretty steady over the last five years. I know of ten or so that are in collectors hands right off the top of my head. If that bike were mine (and this is just my opinion) I would put it's complete value at somewhere between $2500-$3000.

Re: 1979 SE Racing P.K. Ripper
That is what sucked me back into BMX. My sons neighbor just bought the house next to him and was cleaning out the garage and found a bike, he was going to throw it out in the trash and asked my son if he wanted, it my kid sure and took it home. I started researching the bike and thats when I found this site, and have been building bikes that I had or wanted as a kid and now its a expensive hobby. As it turned out it was a round top PK Ripper
