ACS RL Edge Rear Hub ??
I can not remember, what was the function of the ACS RL rear Hub. Was it the hub that let the bike roll backwards and the pedals would not move?
I have the RL Hub, with no gear that I am going to build. I noticed, compared to a Peregrine high flange hub, it is larger in diameter. Can someone measure (or know) the size spokes on the rear wheel?
I got the RL Edge hops too ![]()

Re: ACS RL Edge Rear Hub ??
Also, is there a reason why the axle does not slid out? I removed all the nuts and lock nuts from the axle, but something inside is holding it?? Does the gear holder have to come off?

Re: ACS RL Edge Rear Hub ??
I asked a related question today on another thread, you might check it, maybe the answer you're looking for will pop up there too: http://bmxmuseum.com/forums/viewtopic.p … 9#p1609649
I was also curious if it was the hub or the freewheel or both working together that caused it to be fixed. Could your ACS RL rear hub "switch" between freewheel and fixed or was it just fixed? I don't even know, I'm just now learning about it. I also posted a link there to a really interesting freewheel with a switch mechanism that I found online.
WANT TO BUY:
A'ME goggles (black) with the black strap and white font on it that says A'ME from the 1980s
"GEAR" RACING PANTS from 80s - size 32"-34"
zeronine gloves "Wrist-Wrap" (black and white)
1982-83 Mongoose helmet wrap-around decal
pm or email
Totally missing the point since 1971.

Re: ACS RL Edge Rear Hub ??
It's not fixed at all. It is a freewheel "feel" - but if the bike rolls backwards, the pedal stay and do not go backwards.....like a normal freewheel would make the pedals do.

Re: ACS RL Edge Rear Hub ??
Thanks for the info, RL-200II Guy - so, am I correct in assuming that the free/fixed "ACS Freetrack Hub" technology that was on the '87 Decade was not an available option for the '88 Decades?
I read an interesting thread where it sounds like some guy got hurt pretty bad riding a friend's '87 Decade because he didn't have experience riding fixed gears - http://www.os-bmx.com/forums/index.php? … ntry313928
I totally want one though and switching back and forth without having to flip the hub would be a dream ![]()

Re: ACS RL Edge Rear Hub ??
I believe the RL Edge was a freecoaster hub. The reason the axle didn't slide right out is because of the coaster guts inside.
Ii could be completely wrong too. ![]()

No, the decade would have had a freecoaster of any kind. It would have been added to the bike at some point. Off the top of my head, I can not recall any bikes coming stock with a freecoaster. I am sure their might be some, but I can think of any, especially not any Mongoose models.

Re: ACS RL Edge Rear Hub ??
Thanks!
That is how mine appears. Now the question is.... if you turn the sprocket by hand, is it grabing the "wheel" as if it is fixed? Mine does. One direction should be "free". If I hold the wheel still, and turn the sprocket one direction and then the other direction, there is about a 1/4" play before it grabs the wheel...
My sprocket is setting on the same part of the shaft as your too.

THey are a sealed tech, which is the ruber sealed type over loose balls. Not true sealed-sealed bearings.

Re: ACS RL Edge Rear Hub ??
The ACS RL edge hub was the 1st/original freecoaster hub back then. They were designed not to back pedal but still be able to pedal backwards w/o engaging anything. A friend of mine had this when we were kids. The complaint that he had was that there was a lil slop before the hub actually caught to go forward. Hope this clears anything up

Re: ACS RL Edge Rear Hub ??
Is there suppose to be any decals on the front hub? I have a set of RL edge rims but mine have a different rear hub. Mine says SUNTOUR Dual Free Hub.
Is this the correct hub for these rims?

The wheel sets I had as a kid, was like yours. It was not the RL Edge wheel set, it was more like the RL Edge "rims", laced to whatever hub. I think they were like a $99 wheel set then. Mine had the Skyway freecoaster too...

I've got a set with the acs freecoaster hub, never could get the thing to work correct. I might be expecting too much though. Love to see the pdf mentioned.

That is incorrect, the decade pro came stock with the R.L. freecoaster hub.
