Re: 1974 Yamaha Moto-Bike

It is a very cool bike but I'm sorry to tell you that the seat is not original.  They came with a banana style seat from the factory.

Re: 1974 Yamaha Moto-Bike

Actually, after doing a little research, it looks like the seat might have been different year to year or an option.  Either way, The bike is sweet.  I had one myself bitd.  My dad and I bought it off the showroom floor at the Yamaha dealer in Texas.  Long gone now.

Re: 1974 Yamaha Moto-Bike

thanks blokes, as you can see there is no provisions above the rear shocks for a banana seat to be mounted! which makes this the standard seat model..

Re: 1974 Yamaha Moto-Bike

I had such a bike with that style seat.  The Moto-Bike seats of that style had white lettering across the bike that said, not surprisingly, "MOTO-BIKE."  The banana seat was an option.  Basically, without picking bones about years since I'm not a Moto-Bike expert, you could get the banana seat or 3 corner seat, Yami yellow or burnt orange, and chrome or flat black components.
I also notice that yours has a euro BB and cottered cranks as mine did, but there is one very similiar to yours hanging from the ceiling of a bike shop right up my street.  It's got an american BB and one piece ashtabula style cranks.  I guess the more you looked into moto-bikes the more you'd see there were many variations.  They were ALL a blast though!
