1980 Quicksilver Team

Very rare frame, only 5 known left in captivity

This frame has a bit of history with me. I bought it in 2004 from Dropbear (Pete) and sold it a year later due to a servere money shortage. I sold it to MR BMX (Marty) and about 2 years ago he wanted one of my frames (Blackhawk) and we did a straight swap and I got the same frame back. And here it is, the first real team Quicksilver frame!
Team Quicksilver frame
Tange Forks
Araya 7X rims
Suzue hubs
Mitsuboshi Comp IV rear, Comp III front
Shimano 600 cranks
KKT Lightning pedals
Dia Compe MX1000 caliper
Shimano DX lever
Suntour seat clamp
Alloy seatpole
Kashimax seat
Suntour headlock
Nitto MX-2 stem
Kuwahara Laser bars
Oakley .5 grips

Re: 1980 Quicksilver Team

And unfortunately for Quicksilver BMX, he again needed to sell the frame...  fortunately, I was the one who ended up buying it.

It's currently sitting as a bare frame, waiting patiently for me to get my act together and build a replica of my actual Team QS race bike from 1980...

I am planning to make it look like the bike on the left in this photo...

Re: 1980 Quicksilver Team

Can't wait to see this built Alistair. That's a very cool bike you had. Most parts I can see shouldn't be a problem to get either!

Re: 1980 Quicksilver Team

I am constantly amazed at the number of super duper mega rare one-offs that show up here. But then again I am the one who -once- owned what may very well have been the very first STR-1 prototype frame ever made and had my story backed up by SE right here in the Museum. It's not like I still have it (I wish!), but it's long gone. Nobody even wanted it when I did have it; it was mild steel and very heavy and awkward and I eventually sold or traded it. I don't recall. In 1978 it was just a long, heavy, awkward bike that looked cool but ultimately was s*** at racing or jumping. So keep your eyes open, you never know when you might stumble across a grail.

PS - your bike is very nice. It is similar to a Thruster in the back.

PPS - I just scored a very rare bird myself, see my bikes for the American Flyer. No reference to one like it ANYWHERE.

Sweet looking bike all done up in Red. Looks like the frame has changed hands quite a bit. Hope if finds a good home. cool

Re: 1980 Quicksilver Team

Hi everyone!  Well the bike did get rebuilt.  It was rebuilt using some parts that I still had from my original bike, some NOS parts and also some survivor eBay items.  It's not 100%, but it's very close.
