Have I got Hutch Woody's here?!!

OK, so i picked up a Jap made Trickstar a while ago and it comes with a set of "Mike D" bars .. although they are not, i know they are not but they are already on the bike so i still take them.  Anyway, i have been looking at these and it crossed my mind they may be Woody Itson's!!
They have had a thinner lower cross bar welded on after factory to make them look like Mike D's but the welds are terrible.  The shape without the lower cross bar kinda looks like Woody's, especialy at the bottom near the clamp area.

width - 28 1/4"
Top crossbar width - 10 3/4" (top of bar, weld to weld)
Height - 6 1/2" (very bottom of clamp bar to very top of top cross bar)

Whats your thoughts guys...?!

Re: Have I got Hutch Woody's here?!!

That lower bars has been added after tha fact, the weld does not look "right" because it was done by some one with alot less experiance in welding,  compared to the person that welded the top bar into place that is.
I guarntee you the same person did not weld those two bars!
Look how tight and smooth the top weld it, the bottom is choppy, been started and stopped a few times.

In having my frames built, I have been to alot of welder's, and have seen some extreamly great and some really bad out of the same shop. All depends on who's welding.
I ended up going with Brew and Super Cross.
My theory is, some one had some hutch/Profile bars, and brought them to a local weld shop or did it themselfs in the garage, had them welded then powder coated, added decals and called them Woody's....  But thats just a guess. big_smile

Re: Have I got Hutch Woody's here?!!

looks like woody bars with a hack weld bottom bar job.  big_smile get out the grinder and bring em back to life, not a hard fix at all, or have someone fix the weld job, looks like  JB weld.

Hmmmmm, I believe the top cross bar on Woody bars is 8" from center of bottom clamp bar to center of cross bar.....................

Re: Have I got Hutch Woody's here?!!

They look like Woody's to me - the right shape.... but like you said - with a middle cross bar added afterwards to make them look like Mike D bars.

Interesting concept.  They're not bad looking. but since the top bar on Woody bars is lower. it does look a little crowded in there. smile

Looks like your stem clamp area is pinched pretty good too. Might not be worth all the work to remove the middle bar. Since the crimping isn't ideal.  If I had them, i'd just save them as a novelty. Probably not mount them to a bike.

Mostly, I have (and had) a few sets of OG woody bars with factory paint and decals. (one of my favorites) and they're all slightly different shaped. Very hand made looking bars when you get down to comparing them.  About as consistently shaped as the trick star frames... lol

I agree..MIG welds seem to "pop" up more. I do a lot of MIG welding and that always frustrates me LOL A good TIG weld will be embedded and get good penetration.

lol  To get the kind of weld on the top bar from factory on a mig welder you need to preheat the metal and just over lay the tacks to achieve the overlapped small dime effect look.  It's hard but it can done if you know what your doing.  The welder who did the bottom bar didn't care or didn't practice first.   They could be polished around the edges to make them look better though.  Some small hand files would do the trick.  smile

Yeah, I hear ya.  To get that look you have to give small tacks all the way around with nice high heat without burning through.  Once you burn through your pooched.  yikes

Decent info here-

Yeah i looked at that and the measurements of the woody's (at 28x6x11) are very close to mine ... that close they could be the same measured from different places on each bar.  Could do with someone to measure theirs from the same places i mentioned at the top.
If they do turn out to be Woody's I will defo take off the bottom bar as I have been after a set for a while.. had the fork pegs taken off my trickstar forks BITD and you couldnt tell they were ever there, so they should be good as new.
