1980 Cinelli MX-1
1980 Cinelli MX-1
"Winning is your thing. Quality is ours."
Gold 1980 Cinelli MX-1, fitted with mostly original Campy parts.
Cinelli Frame, Forks, Seatpost, Unicanitor Seat, Stem and Bars.
Campy Cranks, Sealed BB, Pedals.
Ukai front rim, Araya rear rim, Shimano front and rear cassette hub.
Izumi Chain.
Had to replace the campy sealed bb as it was shot, changed to a newer sealed campy bb. Added a gold Izumi chain and trued the rear wheel. Apart from that, this is the bike in complete survivor condition and was bought off the family of the original owner (who apparently raced it to 4th at the worlds in the early 80's).
Amazingly light frame - columbus chromoly tubing. The frame was originally available in gold, blue, red and silver. Cinelli are a big name in road and track bikes since the 1940's (don't quote me), and had a shortlived crack at BMX for two years. This coincided with Campy delving into BMX, as Tullio Campagnolo and Cino Cinelli were long time associates and friends.
Apparently, 10 were imported in New Zealand in 80/81. This is one of two that I've seen still left.

Re: 1980 Cinelli MX-1
the cinelli now resides in australia with a much more appreciative owner, and he has much grander plans for it than i did. i'm sure he'll upload it to the museum once he's done.

It's locked up safe, it's getting a full restoration, it might me ready in a year or two.

Re: 1980 Cinelli MX-1
Times are tough at the moment so I have to let the bike go to someone else, it's currently listed on aust eBay but I can post it world wide.

Re: 1980 Cinelli MX-1
My buddy had this exact gold one, as first pictured, back around 81 or 82. It was a very smooth riding bike. More for the 5 foot and under rider. The thing I remember most about his bike was that it was the 1st BMX bike that I ever saw in person with a euro bottom bracket and there was a ton of flex when you held the bike to the side and put a foot on the pedal. Still, like I mentioned earlier, it rode smooth!!! I remember that Cinelli add too... good times ![]()
