1983 Ammaco Team Special

This is my Ammaco team special and my first rebuild. When I first bought this bike it was a rust bucket. I wanted it as I had one when i was a boy. I stripped it down and sorted it all out in quite a short space of time and gave it a full makeover. Now my son Charlie can ride it to his hearts content. I did it for as cheaply as possible and I am very happy with how it turned out. Without the help of Brasso and endless hours of serious cleaning to the rusty frame and wheels I doubt if it would of come up so well.

I admit that it is not the greatest bmx in the world, but I have not seen a lot of these bikes about and has a nostalgic value to me. It will be nice to see another Ammaco added to the army as there are not enough in the museum.

man, great rebuild, bike looks great! now tell me, either charlie is 6' tall, or that is a 16" wheel bike.

Thanks for the comment Nature boy. Yes it is a 16" build, Charlie is not 6' tall yet. It is far too small for me, I ride a Raleigh Team Burner, which I will be uploading soon. cheers

Thanks MYONE! i am new on here so still finding my feet. I really appreciate your positive feedback. When I first saw all the rust, especially in the gusset area I thought what have I got myself into, but persisted with it and she came up super shiny, it was only then i thought it was worth all those hard hours.

Great restoration, nice to see it is still being enjoyed!

The only info I have is the 1983 catalogue scan: http://bmxmuseum.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=37784
I did manage to find the original higher res scans and added this pic:

Cheers for the catalogue, i have seen it briefly before and remember I did not really like the look of the original gold/black stickers, so that is why I did mine with simple blue ones. much appreciated Oldmetal

Re: 1983 Ammaco Team Special

Cheers for that MDF, much appreciated. I am glad I did not get replica stickers done in the original gold/black like the catalogue, it would of interfered with the rest of the the blue theme.
