1986 Kuwahara Bravo KT

Reliving my youth by putting together this classic!

I originally had this bike when I was 11 years old. Unfortunately, it was stolen when I was 14. Sixteen years later, I found another one (in better condition I might add) on Ebay and polished and rebuilt this classic. The bike has all survivor parts except I bought new AME grips, brake cables, chain, kenda 20 x 1.75 tires, an ACS rotor and Dia Compe MX brake pads. The seat post seems to be a replacement due to the color mismatch, and I'm unfortunately missing one of the fork pegs.

So awsome.  Kuwahara is the most underrated BMX Freestyle bike of the 80s.  Beautiful bikes.  I'm proud to say I have 2 (86 Magician, and 87 Magician Ex) upcoming Kuwahara projects.

The town I group up in just north of Edmonton, Canada was a Kuwie town. I remember seeing every color combination and model at the bike racks at school; Magicians and Bravos were everywhere. I, however, was the only kid with a green KT.

The green Kuwahara Bravo Kt's were the first freestyle bikes I ever lusted after.  There were identical twins that lived in my neighborhood who had two green Kt's, with slightly different components to differentiate them.  One looked EXACTLY like this one.  That funky green is, IMO, one of the greatest colors ever put on a bike.

I was just at the RAD 25th anniversary weekend and I regrettably didn't bring my Kuwie (too lazy to pack it up). It would've certainly stood out from all the chrome old school bikes in attendance for sure!

Wicked! I can see where Healing (NZ bike co.) got a lot of its frame ideas for their '86 Freestyler! tongue
