1998 Torker TFX

Scored this bike on Ebay.  I don't know too much about Torkers (let alone the TFX) but always wanted a twin top tube ride. I removed most of the mid-school looking decals but left the head tube sticker. Chrome is in really good shape. A few rust spots on the crank but I'll trade that out with a nice 3 piece later on. If anyone knows the quality of this bike please let me know. There's little to no info on this model anywhere.

Re: 1998 Torker TFX

I've decided to change thing up a bit by adding Powerlite freestyle bars and a pair of bear trap pedals. I'm not really diggin' the Powerlite bars like I thought and also purchased Haro 2K kneesavers and will compare the two. I'm waiting for the Haros to arrive now.

The pedals are cheap VP 747's (I think they're 747's?) but I'll go with Hutch pedals later. I'm not ready to shell out the cash for 3 piece cranks just yet so these will do until then.

Comments on the Powerlite bars?

Re: 1998 Torker TFX

I love Torker! Got my first one in 1979, I was 14. Sold it when I moved out at 18, and regretted it. A few years later I tracked down the kid I sold it to, and after a few more people I got it back. No doubt it is mine, serial numbers don't lie. I will never let it go again. Still love to ride it. My son's Torker was a hard one to pinpoint. I thought it was a TFX at first, but Hellmutt helped me out and we came up with a 180X. Little longer and a bit heavier than the old Johnson Engineering Torkers, but it rides SOOOOOOOO nice. Working on an old Redline now, will post when done.

Nice to hear you got your bike back! I don't know about other Torkers ( this is my first one) but the TFX rides exceptionally smooth too. Plus, I like the fact that it's a little more heavy-duty than others yet not built like a tank. My other bike is an '83 Diamond Back Silver Streak (which I had since '83) and is a little too small for me now but I still ride it occasionally. I still love it. When my daughter is old enough I'll switch out all the black parts for pink ones, just for her tongue
