Hubs - Phil Wood

Phil Wood
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

First gen Phil Hubs came out about 1971. They were three piece hubs with aluminum flanges and a stainless steel body. The SS body was smooth WITHOUT a raised section in the middle like the second-gen has

Re: Hubs - Phil Wood

I was thinking that too. I had never seen these hubs until the last few month doing research on an '84 build. I bought a brand new set of Phil three piece Stainless 1st Gen hubs in '81 or '82 (seen in my profile pic) and they were highly praised. I quite racing in '84 and they had not come out to my recollection.

I think 2nd gens came out in 88 or later.

Re: Hubs - Phil Wood

Check out the random receipt I found? If you wonder what 1st gen Phil Wood hubs cost around Christmas in 1982, here you go. I just paid double that for a rusty set with bad bearings. lol

These alloy Phil Wood hubs appear to be second generation of the all alloy bodied hubs.

Pics of 2nd generation Phil Wood BMX hub. This would be technically the first generation of the all alloy bodied BMX hubs.

Found this advertisement from 1976 for Hi-E high-low flange rear hub. I never heard of this company but this
hub seems to be identical as the Phil Wood high-low flange rear hub. Anyone have an idea to which came first?
Did Hi-E put their name on Phil Wood hubs or vise-versa?

More vintage ads from this company featuring this hub including price lists can be found here.
