1998 Trek Team Issue 3

1998 Trek Team Issue 3

This is their short lived Y frame.  Large ovalized tubes and low stand over height similar to a Specialized Fatgirl.  That’s why I got it.  One day I hope to see my daughter cruise around on it.

Not particularly light for an aluminum racing bike.  However, it is strong, and it is fun to look at.  I believe the metallic yellow color was called ‘mustard’.  The Team Issue frames, 1, 2, and 3 were all the same, but the components were different.  I got this used as a frame-only on Ebay and got the Trek stem from a member and the NOS 44t Trek Sprocket and NOS Trek seat on Ebay as well!  Seems I’m the only one who wants one of these, so was pretty cheap.  I’m always happy to be in that position.

For reference –parts are:  Black Schwinn V-brakes, generic black 34.9 quick-release seat clamp, JD 27.0 alloy seat post (same as on GT's race bikes), Profile 175 cranks (unmarked 4th generation), VP-550 pedals, Black unsealed Aheadset, GT .070 chromoly bar.  Didn’t get a fork with my frame, but the Trek forks weren’t too inspired, so I broke down and mounted a GT butted Chromoly fork.
Oh, got this wheelset from another member on here -as 'un-named riders'.  I now believe they are sealed hubs and are off a Mosh Pro or Team race bike -they are SWEET wheels in black ano with machined sides on the rims.  Great deal and perfect on this bike -might even have been stock since Mosh, Trek, and Gary Fisher used a lot of the same parts.

Re: 1998 Trek Team Issue 3

I always liked those frames even though alot of people dont seem to. When those bikes first came out they were realy ground-breaking and alot of other companies started making similar designs about a year later. Trek was one of those bmx companies that buyers never cared for even though they had a great team and great products. I personally wouldnt mind having one of those frames myself, to me that bike looks sweet.
