1997 GT Performer

our first project

working with my son (aged 9) to build his first bike
got this off ebay uk today - bit of a mess, no brakes, but original GT parts
stripped down to clean, polish etc
waiting on a few parts - new chain; skyways - the wheels i always wanted as a kid in the 80's but could never afford )-;
anyone know what the original brakes on this were ?

cheers to daygogt96 for the advice on the brakes and to mongoosedrummer for the CAP rust removal method on the chainring - sweet

nearly there now, just need to work out these newfandgled gyro things........  (-;

Re: 1997 GT Performer

Nice project  for you and your son, I have a 96 (see it in my bikes) and it is still one of my favorites.  I'd guess the brakes were bulldogs with a 990 rear.  Keep us posted on the progress, wink
