Long Island, NY Ride - July 18, Long Beach boardwalk

So we're looking for a NYC/Central Park follow up for same gang, and even more takers, who were unable to join us in the wet, but fun meetup.

We're examining the date of Sat., July 25, to endlessly rove the 3-mile long boardwalk along the Atlantic beach, offering everything from bars and concession stands to beach-attire wearing civilians and perhaps, even a barbeque if GrizzlyFester can pull some strings at a local residence.

Come one, come all...we had a great time meeting in the city, and this one, with any luck at all, should offer the same but with more sunshine (even a single sunbeam would be an improvement, and if the rain didn't stop the last one, this one should be a piece of cake so long as a hurricane doesn't swoop in).

Our point of meeting will be refined as the date approaches, but the general area map is here:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&sou … mp;iwloc=A

The town is accessible by car, boat, or train, specifically the Long Island Rail Road, which can take you directly from Penn Station, NYC, and does - unless there's something happening that denies bikes that day - allow you to board with your wheels.

What say ye, Strong Islanders and area residents?

Re: Long Island, NY Ride - July 18, Long Beach boardwalk

Bad News!  I just called the Lido Skatepark and they DO allow bicycles, but due to the excellent management of Nassau County, they are not staffed and may not open this season!!!  Also, my friend who lives on the East End is gonna be in Montaukl that weekend, so no BBQ at his house.  I do have a friend on the west end that I will ask.  Either way, it will be a great time even if we stick to the Boardwalk and surrounding areas.  Looking forward to it.

Re: Long Island, NY Ride - July 18, Long Beach boardwalk

How many people can we get together for this??  A nice crew of 20ish, would provide for some excellent photo ops on the boardwalk and beach.  I will be with my 2 boys and I am sure some of my local friends will come also.  So we have a starting point of 4-5 people!!

Re: Long Island, NY Ride - July 18, Long Beach boardwalk

20 ? Probably more then that

We had like 60 at the ride in Philly and even 30 peeps showed up for the Central Water Park ride

Who knows ? It's always different but usually more then 20 by a stretch. If the weather is right and the pre-game excitement is there we're capable of having a ride with 100 people.... no exaggeration. I doubt we'll have that many but it's totally possible

Re: Long Island, NY Ride - July 18, Long Beach boardwalk

im in, and i could actually drive there, yay! tongue

its a great ride just be aware that the boardwalk itself is pressure treated wood. i suggest not bringin a bike with lighter then black colored tires unless u dont care.

the boardwalk is only half the fun there. riding though the village is dope, lots of places to eat and drink, live music can be heard from outside, and the atmosphere is cool. theres a few bike shops within the vicinity incase of breakdowns, and 2 outdoor ramp parks. one is really small next to a boat landing, really small..  the other is bigger and is watched over by security and requires a helmet and a license to enter, but still outdoors and cool.
