2008 Knight Bike Co. Proformer

My old bike all growed up!!

Ever since I got back into BMX, I wanted my first real bike back. Then I thought how cool would it be to have my old bike in a cruiser size? Then they started popping up in the museum. The first one I noticed was Haro7’s 2004 Haro Backtrail X24 "Master retro". It wasn’t the real thing. But I knew mine could never be. Then I saw people taking two 20” frames and making a cruiser like mastertint’s 1980 Cook Bros cruiser and 13thoni’s 1985 Haro Master 24". So it is possible. A lot of work. But possible. I told my wife my plan and she didn’t understand what I was trying to achieve. So I went to Knight Bikes Co.’s website to show her their remake of the Redline Squareback and “Ahhhhhhhh!!!!” (Angels singing). They have already done all of the work for me!!!!!!! And now, after all the planning, getting some parts stolen, luckily finding another seat, and Chip making some killer bars, it’s finally done.

WOW!! great bike and great story..
The build looks fantastic!
we may need a new category for these, "dream bikes" one offs, er something.
How does it ride? perhaps a pic of you riding/jumping it?

Re: 2008 Knight Bike Co. Proformer

It rides pretty good, Gary. I only rode it in the Clock Tower parking lot a little after the show was over. This WILL get ridden!!!!!!! I just wanted to keep it as nice as possible for Rockford.

There it is! As sweet as before and I love the fact that you rebuilt your childhood bike! Excellent job man. I think it's very cool that so far none of us have gone in the same direction with this build. We each had a plan in our heads and stuck with it and the distinctions are great. One thing though...you forgot the reflector over the front brake caliper on this build! lol It's the little details that you have to mind. big_smile

It's like George at Knight read my mind. You're absolutely correct about each of us going in our own directions for our bikes. To me, freestyle was always about individuality. I don't think any reflectors will be going on this bike. I also won't be putting a rear caliper on it so I can tangle up the cable in the top tube platform. lol I fixed that problem on my old bike the next day. tongue

That just rocks all over the place. I somehow missed seeing this one in the flesh at Rkfd, but drooled over the pictures. I want one like this in the worst possible way. Great job!

Wow, 2 votes?! I wish I had gone just to give you the vote support! I still can't believe you didn't win that class, but at least we know it was close (not that that's any comfort to you). just curious, did you have the 2 pictures of you above as part of your presentation at Rockford? They're a very cool touch and makes this build seem to have a real significance, as opposed to just building something nice. I'm glad you built it the way you did and I know you love it, so that's what really counts! I hope you plan to ride that thing like I'm doing. lol

Once again, it's a beautiful bike and I really like the shots you included! The 1st one with the trolly in the BG is great to associate location with the sick build.

Nah, Marcus, I didn't have the pics with me. hmm I didn't think of it until Friday night before the show. I thought about getting some made but the Kinko's didn't open up early enough. It would have really helped my chances, though.
