New "Needs Work" Status For Bikes
I just implemented the long-overdue "Needs Work" status for bikes. This means an admin can mark a bike as "Needs Work" and leave you a note as to what needs to be addressed before the bike is made active in the museum. (As opposed to just deleting the bike as was the practice before.)
The note will appear underneath your bike thumbnail in Pending Bikes on your user page (i.e. /user/nate):
.. and at the top of the single bike view (i.e. /bikes/redline/631):
We also started a page for Submission Guidelines. We'll be updating this as time goes on, but it's a good start.
Hopefully this will make things a little smoother for bike submissions.

if a bike gets flagged needs work... what the procedure after you fix the problem. do we have to let yo know or is this something that gets reviewed again.

I as well haven't had time to check posts to see if you have researched a correct year after submitting.
you were right hellmut. i called huffy today and got a positive id on my pro thunder. the bike shop was not correct.

Re: New "Needs Work" Status For Bikes
why does a bike need a serial #?
We gather the serial #s for reference, hey do NOT show on the website.
I have sent serials #s and stuff to several people after their bike has been stolen.
You can simply put "none" in the serial # field if you dont want to submit them.
Cheers, GAry

Ok, I fixed my submission on the MT Racing Junior Fox. Now what? The question doesnt seem to have been answered. BMX_Madness "if a bike gets flagged needs work... what's the procedure after you fix the problem. Do we have to let you know or is this something that gets reviewed again".
Thanks.

Submitting the serial number to the museum also helps you by keeping your serial number written down in case your bike gets stolen. Also know that the serial number is only visible to you! It is not made public.
Glad to see this section up and running. Nice work Nate! ![]()

What if a bike has no serial#?I have a frame that looks exactly like an 84 Haro freestyler without the coaster tab.But there is no serial to ID the bike.It has to be made by Anlun but I'm not sure its a Haro.
How can you call me stupid...when you don't understand what I say?

Re: New "Needs Work" Status For Bikes
Yep works well.
I tried to submit my 1975 Mongoose/Super-X and it was put in the new “Needs Work†section. One reason was that I had to get rid of the little photo bucket symbol in the photo’s which is fair enough. The other reason was that my bike is a Mongoose frame with Super-X decals and so it was listed in the wrong section as I tried to list it as a Mongoose, even though it had a detailed explanation of why it should be listed in the Mongoose section. The response on fixing the photo’s and resubmitting it as a Mongoose was to have it deleted with no further communication. I’d love t have a chat to the Mod responsible for this display of “ABSOLUTE ARROGANCE†.
The bike is very significant to the history of Mongoose BMX. Please correct me if I’m wrong but I would guess that nearly every Mod in the museum wouldn’t have a clue about how this bike fits in with the history of Mongoose.
Considering that this bike is the 268th Mongoose frame built, made in the first few months of Mongoose production and that there are only 3 other 1975 Mongoose BMX bikes in the Museum, I would have thought that you would have wanted it displayed for the members. I only know of one other Super-X decaled Mongoose frame and it’s owner (A significant player in the Old School BMX scene world wide) chooses not to display his amazing collection on your site.
So where would you have liked the bike listed?????
You have some Super-X bikes listed under BMX Products in the Museum but my bike was made by RECO Racer’s Engineering Company and BMX Products did not own RECO when this bike was made, so it isn’t a BMX Products bike. Also the Super-X bikes in the Museum including the one and only 1975 Super-X, have the Super-X single gusset which was later changed to the boomerang style. Note both of these different style Super-X frames aren’t Mongoose style frames.
You don’t have a listing for RECO and if you did I believe the link to the history of Mongoose/BMX Products and RECO would be lost. Not many people wanting to research Mongoose history would ever find my bike or make the connection if it is listed as a RECO bmx.
My bike is a RECO made 1975 Mongoose frame, the 268th Mongoose frame made. RECO produced these frames for Mongoose and also sold some Mongoose frames decaled with Super-X decals through their existing motorcycle connections.
My bike was said to have been swapped at the sticker factory for Mongoose and Super-X decals instead of payment. Maybe they didn’t have the cash flow at that early stage to pay for decals?
I believe that the significance that this bike has in showing the link that early Mongoose frames were sold with Super-X decals prior to or around the same time as the Super-X came to have it’s own unique frame design is too important to dismiss out of hand as you have.
When the bike was just deleted with no further communication I tried to question why such an arrogant attitude was taken to such an important submission. I sent an e-mail through the contact us section and guess what…NO REPLY at all.
So my question is do you really want to have such a rare piece of BMX history displayed on your site or don’t you?
After all isn’t this site for the members and not an outlet for arrogant dismissive decisions by Mods?
So if it isn’t too much trouble could one of the GODS of the Museum actually engage in some communication with one of the minions if it isn’t beneath you?
He who dies with the most toys WINS!

Sounds like something that should definitely be in the museum! Please try resubmitting it. We have a new person in charge of bike submissions now.

fwiw, the mods all do this for free.

the irony is that the increasingly negative comments make it really unappealing for mods and myself to work on the site.
the quality of the site really comes down to the behavior of folks here. believe me, we all want things to go smoothly and everyone to enjoy the site.

Re: New "Needs Work" Status For Bikes
Well put Nate,
plus we sometimes get busy, or have different schedules.
Believe me, BMX is the focus of the site and documenting the history and bikes in/was the main focus..
As Nate said, we all want the site to run smoothly, and are constantly working towards that goal..
I hope the recent changes help with that...

Re: New "Needs Work" Status For Bikes
if you bike has a problem and is put in the needs work section after its fixed it will be approved and on you bike page when you click on your username if its not there even under pending it might have gotten lost or didn't go through and you'll have to resubmit it

Re: New "Needs Work" Status For Bikes
Somebody doesn't like me...
"Need full size drive side shot as first pic please, better lighting too"
Is there really something wrong with this as a first picture?
When did the drive side start playing into this?
The only things you can't see well in the picture of the driveside is the big, solid, black sprocket, and the big black hubgaurd...
There are pictures 1000x worse than mine that get used for 'first pictures,' what's the deal with my whole thing getting held up for some bologna?

Re: New "Needs Work" Status For Bikes
Is there anyway you can check to see if my Mach 1 I am trying to submit is still sitting in pending, or where ever?
I originally made a mistake on my photos so I got the "needs work" thing but I have since fixed it yet my bike is not showing up under "my bikes".
Did mine get lost, do I need to resubmit it?
