I saw this and thought of your yellow bike. Another custom classic mate.

Re: 1998 Haro Blammo

Hey just a quick question. Is there any difference between the seatstay wishbone on your 97 and 98? It seems like the blammo had a few tweaks between 96-97-98 before they went to bigger tubing in late 98/99. I have heard that is where they were most likely to break, the seatstay wishbone, thus the changes. I had a 98(technically a 99, but bought in summer 98) that had the larger tubing and revised design.

There's a store locally that still has one of these brand new. It must have been sitting in the showroom for the past ten years. He has it priced at over $600, though.

Indeed.
But the changes that really made the difference in strength, actually took place on the 1999 and up Haro Blammos.
1996 & 1997 were the same on the rear triangle.
1999 and up were the "Industrial Strenght" labeled ones wink Down tube and head tube were still the same though.

Re: 1998 Haro Blammo

I think the chrome ones from 96 had a longer rear end.  Not sure though.  Yes the wishbone seatstay is where i broke mine, but that didn't stop me from rewelding it in shop class. cool  Eventually it cracked again in another spot and i got a "crash replacement" from my local bike shop for 100 bucks new frame and fork.big_smile

I think that may be an illusion created by the bend in the wishbone from year to year and later, the larger diameter stay tubing and revised wishbone. I have a 97 and a 99 now and they feel the same and seem to measure the same, although I am measuring completed bikes.
I love these bikes. I ride my "new" yellow one constantly. It is so much fun to ride the big boy for a few days and then jump on my 23 pound premium and bunny hop huge.tongue

Re: 1998 Haro Blammo

IIRC there was a difference in chainstay length between 96/97 to 98/99...i'll see if i can dig that up.  still to this day one of my favorite bikes.  IMHO the last "good bike" haro put out was the 98 Blammo smile but i'm biased.

Re: 1998 Haro Blammo

It's strange that yours has the normal head-tube thickness like the 1997 ones had...though a 1998 model.
My 98' Blammo has the double thick head-tube hmm

Re: 1998 Haro Blammo

My 99 which I bought in the summer of 98 had the machined head tube

I remember the ads featuring the red blammo and they had the non-machined HT.

Duke, your red 98 has the machined HT? That's a transition model for sure.

My 98' is the only 98' i've ever came across...and it has the double thick-machined Head-tube hmm
Though the rear ends are similar to those of the 1998 & 1997 Blammos (both drop-outs & seat-stays)

The 1999 i have, has the same head-tube as my 98', but i recon this is normal on a 99' Blammo.
Rear end on my 99' is different as well. Same chain-stays with the 98s BUT different drop-outs and and chain-stays the same as the 1999-2000 Mirra Pro.
