1981 Mongoose II
1981 Mongoose II
"The bicycle built to fly"
This is my "spare parts build". After building the other 2 motomags, I had almost enough parts to build another mongoose. So, that's just what I did. The chrome on this frame was gone, so I sandblasted it, and repainted it. I used spray cans on the color & clear coats, but wet sanded it in between and the finish came out great. I refurbished a lot of the parts on this one to include: the frame, bars, stem, pedals, cranks & seat post. I couldn't be happier with the build over all. I think it's the first time the end product ended up exactly as I pictured it in my mind before I started. I especially love the color of the frame with the black tuffs and parts.

Re: 1981 Mongoose II
Another awesome build Ricci! This is one of the nicest finishes I've ever seen on a Mongoose...
This one is surely built to fly!!!
A "Squonk" is like a Mongoose only much harder to find...

Re: 1981 Mongoose II
Thanks, fellas! I really dig the color myself.
Aaron, no plans to sell, but if I do I'll let you know. I took a few pics of all the geese today, and will also throw out a couple more of the 81 by itself.

Love the bike, love the color. Looks awesome. Any chance you remeber where you got the "Gneric Diamond Pleated" seat? I have a similar version, but mine is too shiny. I like yours as a nice replacement over the hard to obtain original.

Re: 1981 Mongoose II
Thanks, bro. I like the color too. The more I see it, the more I'm glad I went with it. I got the seat at Ginny's in the even anyone else was wondering.

Mate that is a fantastic colour you have painted it. It has come up fantastic, also thanks for the PM to remind me to check it out i greatly apreciate it. Im just wondering if a set of black skinwalls will set if off even more. Great build and once again great flock of Geese there. Keep me informed of any more you descide to build.

Re: 1981 Mongoose II
Thanks, bro. I remembered you saying you wanted to see it when it was done. Skinwalls would probably look pretty cool, but I really dig the big ol' black butt huggers for now. ![]()
My next build will be a new house, so that was one reason I wanted to get this one done and out of my head. I knew it would be distracting to me to know it was nearly done, and not able to work on it. So, now I can focus on what needs to be done. No more bike builds for right now.
Besides, me and the girls are having too much fun riding them to be busey building anymore right now. ![]()

Re: 1981 Mongoose II
Im hearing ya mate, they are great fun riding and you get the looks to, the old classics just draw the attention where ever you go. I got together with about 12 guys the other week and hit the bike track and we had a blast all old school bikes. As they say on the ozbmx.com.au website Built to be ridden not hidden.

Re: 1981 Mongoose II
Thanks, bro! It's not as colorful as some old schoolers, but I love the black and grey color theme. I think it gives it a bit of a "tougher" look.
I need to make some time to clean it up, it's pretty muddy from my last ride with the kiddos.

Re: 1981 Mongoose II
Thanks, Bro! I've been really happy with the way it turned out and rides etc. I can honestly say I ride it more than my Kuwi. I love the Kuwi, but usually can't resist the urge to pull this one out for a ride. ![]()
I thought I was gonna have to look into a lay back post.. but an ever so slight forward adjustment of the bars made a world of difference. Unfortuntaly I didn't get too far down the road when my little crashed pretty hard, and lost a sizeable chunk of skin from her knee.. so we have not riden for a few days now.
