1984 Raleigh Mag Burner
1984 Raleigh Mag Burner
1984 MK2 Mag Burner
Another of my "work in progress" bikes, photo shows the bike just how I found it, crying out to be rescued! It had been badly re-painted in blue and orange spray paint, (gulf racing colours lol) but is complete and rideable, mostly original spec, the exceptions being the tyres, saddle, pedals and grips. It has its original Simplex Mag wheels, the bearings in these spin forever! Missing one wheel reflector and the original front reflector, these bikes were also originally supplied with frame, stem and bar pads when new. Most of the componenents are in excellent useable condition. It is my intention to restore this bad boy to its former glory over the comming months, will update this page as I go.
Update 10.06.09: Scored correct front reflector and bracket and NOS Raliegh stamped saddle, plus almost un-used set of skinwall tyres as originally fitted. Joined Burnerworld.com this week so will be sourcing reproduction decals and pad set shortly, when funds allow, will cost £25 for the decals and £40 for the repro pads! I plan to strip frame, forks, bars and chain guard down to bare metal for new white powder coat finish. I rode the bike around for a bit over the summer as it was, now hung it in my garage ready for those long winter evenings when the resto will begin.
Update 13.06.09: Scored a nice pair of Cateye wheel reflectors on Ebay for the mags, will keep one for a spare, you never know!
Update 20.07.09: Found NOS Tange grips on ebay and pair of NOS Wellgo pedals in a local bike shop.
Update 22.09.09: Scored NOS seatpost to replace the rusty original from ebay.
Take time to play..... It's the secret of perpetual youth!
