Re: 1999 Standard 125 Motocross

I actually found it on craigslist. Kid wanted $200 for it, so I got one hell of a deal. I was planning on doing my own build of an S&M Holmes, but this came up first. I am not usually a big fan of taking someone elses build as my own, but I couldn't say no to this.

Parts include:

Proflile 180mm 3pc cranks
Profile front sprocket 44t
shimano f/w 16t
S&M Slam bars
S&M Redneck stem
S&M saddle (obviously)
King sealed headset
Sun/Rigle pedals
Sun BFR black ano wheels with sun hubs
Dia-compe MX-88 lever
Dia-compe 990 brakes

I replaced the black serfas grips with red animal ones and fbm rooster bar ends and added the old school red valve cap dice. Tires are mismatched right now, I will be replacing them with Primo V-Monsters at some point.

Thanks for the compliments!

Re: 1999 Standard 125 Motocross

Sorry for the Necro-bump....but I have to ask (since a Google search didn't produce much) was it common for the 125R to have 990 mounts on the chainstays? I just picked one up not too long ago and it too has them on the chainstays. Most of them you see have V brake mounts.

I have heard someone (I think on this forum) say Standard made a "125MX" frame which was supposed to be a slightly beefier version of the 125 with 990 mounts....essentially a Standard version of the Dirt Bike. Can anyone confirm this?

These are excellent frames and I'll post pics of mine once it gets powdercoated and built up. Thanks!

Re: 1999 Standard 125 Motocross

*EDIT* To my above post.....I had a "derp moment". Forgive me as I'm an old "Mid School" rider and these "125 Motocross" frames were apparently coming out as I was leaving BMX. Totally missed them. The last Standard frames I remember were the Shorty, Lengthy, STA, Trail Boss and Bicycle Motocross.....this was all before the names changed on them all. (I used to own a Trail Boss...it was a brown mustard color, factory at that!)

So let me rephrase the same question. Were these "125 Motocross" frames common? I'm not seeing much about them. I'm interested in specs and available options...preferably if someone had an old brochure they could scan or something. I won't have my Standard in my hands for another 4 months since I am stationed overseas. It is being delivered to my Mother in Laws house back home....and she don't know much about bikes. I'm hoping that the one I bought isn't a 21" TT.....if it is I'll live with it. But I just wanted to know more about the specs on these frames, and it would be nice to find someone that can offer replacement decals for one. Correct ones.
