1974 Yamaha Moto Bike

Type A Yamaha Moto Bike

For the most part this bike is a complete survivor with all the correct parts. I had to re chrome the bars since the original chrome bars were sanded and painted black. I also replaced the spokes and nipples in both wheels since the others were suffering from rust. I used genuine Yamaha replacement parts and this bike is one of my favorites. This was the first real BMX bike I got when I was kid after I stopped riding my stingray.

Re: 1974 Yamaha Moto Bike

Identical to mine!  I destroyed it but only by wearing it out.  Repeatedly cracked the head tube and had it welded back until my dad's welder buddy said, "Kid.  I can't fix this bike anymore.  There's nothing left to weld."  At one point, I had Yami 125 shocks on it and would wheelie off of planters, landing cushy on the rear tire.  The rear fender mount was bent straight up from catching things I rode off of (that steel is as soft as warm butter.)  Great memories brought back.
Yours is perfect down to the chainguard!

Re: 1974 Yamaha Moto Bike

I really loved that bike when I was a kid.  I thought now I have shocks I can jump off of anything, so I did.  One day at the local high school I jumped from the basketball courts down to the baseball field and broke the front end completely off of the bike.  Good thing was, I didn't really get all that hurt.  Knocked the wind out of myself and got a couple cuts, but that was it.  Worst part was doing it in front of a bunch of people and then having to carry my bike home in 2 pieces.  Thought my parents were going to be pretty mad at me...  Learned a good lesson about lugged frames at an early age.  For sure this was the "got to have it" bike for me when I was a kid.

Re: 1974 Yamaha Moto Bike

Thank you very much for sharing. Great memories!!!!!!
I got one of these bikes for Christmas 1974 when I was 11 years old.
I think my parents paid around $100..00 for it.
I remember building a ramp in our ally and jumping 3 or 4 trashcan lids with it.
I also remember some one stole it but I got it back.
Someone at school one day cut up the seat so I had to replace it with a banana seat
because the dealership did not have the original one.
I sold it a few years later because I started riding motorcycles.
