2000 GT Tour

(titanium prototype)

This is a one of a kind 2000 GT Tour Frame made out of Titanium.

This for sure is the only Titanium Freestyle Frame ever built by GT Bicycles. I'm not sure if they ever made a BMX frame out of Ti either. In any case it's one of a kind. During a time when everyone was pushing for stronger/heavier bikes, we were trying to figure out how to make them lighter. This was the answer, a 3 pound pro size frame. Only problem is, the cost to re produce them was so high, it wouldn't have been feasible to go forward with the project. The welds on this frame are absolutely amazing. It's never been built it up because it's a work of Art and I didn't want to see it damaged.

Re: 2000 GT Tour

The bike you are referring to is a custom made GT Race Bike I posted some pictures of.  I posted it, but it hasn't show up yet in my bikes list.  It has my blue/green SST's on it.

Here is that bike

Re: 2000 GT Tour

Love this bike! I was never a fan of the tours that much, but this Ti is sick and you were right on the money with your comment about the welds! I love everything Ti and own a few Ti watches. Those gyro tabs are pretty cool too.

The ultrabox is just ridiculous man. I'm sure you've provided details in the description when you submitted it, but is that a custom paint job by Troy Lee?! Those hubs are sweet and a really nice match for that bike.

Re: 2000 GT Tour

I spent almost 10 years working for GT running the Freestyle program and designing some of the FS bikes.  I'm most proud of the Tour and the Show frames.  They were innovative during a time when everything started to look the same.  Some liked them, some didn't, but that is how I ended up with that frame.  Woody

Re: 2000 GT Tour

i understand why they changed the frames to keep things "new", but never understood why they changed the name of the pro freestyle tour to just "Tour"

Neither do i...
But i recon it's because of the GT Show. wink

Here's what i believe:
GT had the PFT designed for both flatland and street/vert riding, it was a freestyle bike.
When they came up with the SHOW, which was specific for flat....there was no need for an all-around bike, like the PFT was.
So "freestyle" got to go....and that's why many bike shops and magazines back in the day had it listed as "GT PRO TOUR" wink
Well, this was my add.

It's much better though to let Woody himself comment on this.

Re: 2000 GT Tour

I would say the explanation above is as valid as any to be honest.  The show was a flatland specific frame for sure and pretty much the basis for a lot of the flatland frames you see today, in both design and weight issues.  The Tour was more of a ramp, park, trail frame.  The geometry rode really well for all around riding.  I think GT was just at a time when change was happening all around the industry and in the company, so a name change was inevitable.

Now if they did a new "old" frame to commemorate the old PFT, using the old name would be appropriate.  Woody

Re: 2000 GT Tour

You should be proud of the Tour. It is/was awesome.
Could you talk a little bit about the development of the pac man drop outs? Arguably the tour's most striking feature.

Re: 2000 GT Tour

shes a Beauty!

Thank's for Sharing Woody!
I've always Dreamed about a Titanium GT Freestyler! cool
but ya $$$ would prob be an issue thats why im assuming they stuck with aluminum... So were these harder to produce than theyre TI Road and MTB bikes? or was theyre just less interest?

anyway Its Def a Sweet Frame!

Youd be Surprised to know how many times Ive Sat and Stared at my "Tour" and "Show" Following Every Weld LOL. Thank's

Frank
