Repro's RL's Forklifter Plate - Pic - Opinions? Any Interest In Repro?

Like Everyone else, I waited for the guy over at Vintage to release his repro RL plates and waited and waited and waited........  I had been trying to contact him, but my e-mails went unreturned and his PM box has been full for months.  I finally decided to do somthing about it.  I went to a local plastics company and had them make me a few plates that I picked up today.  They used 1/4" white acrylic.  Acrylic is much stronger than Plexiglass and is extremely hard to break.
I also had all of the decals repro'd except for the Redline one.  The original one on his plate was an 85 Prostyler downtube decal that was cut down, so I did the same.  Other than that, I had all other decals done, even the No Fear decal that's on the back of his plate.  These plates are made with individual decals.  The other guy had made his with 1 big sticker with all images printed on that sticker.  I think that it turned out nicely.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v361/b_koenig/plate.jpg

That being said, I started out by making a couple of these today.  I listed one on eBay to attemp to judge interest before I invest $$$ to have more made.  I think that it would be a good idea to check here as well.  I'm into these for a decent amount of $$$ to start.  The plastics factory hit me up for the cost of a jig to make the plates.  The Prostyler decal sets aren't cheap either and I need these to get the Redline decal.  I'm thinking that if I do them, the price would be $65 - $75 each.  Now, with that being said, please chime in if you would be interested in these at that price.  Before this gets all crazy, I'm not looking to make the "Alternate Color" decaled plates that the other guy had samples of.  I'm just looking to do replicas of RL's plate.  What do you guys think?

I'd be willing to sell em naked if there's enough interest.  They'd probably be about $25 - $30 though.  Let's see if there's enough interest.

I'd like a naked plate.

Were there originally different plates for the race vs. the freestyle bars?

Would you guys be willing to give me a down payment if I were to get a bunch of blank ones done?  Like I said, the cost would be $25 - $30 for each blank one.  I can get a definate price if I see enough people are serious.

Re: Repro's RL's Forklifter Plate - Pic - Opinions? Any Interest In Repro?

I think these are way cool, but just to clarify, are they acrylic?  Plexiglass is just a brand name of acrylic sheet, so Plex & acrylic are the same. There is white plastic sheet material which is not as brittle, ABS, Lexan, etc... I'm not an expert & don't wish to rain on the parade.hmm

Yep, acrylic.  Sorry I didn't specify.  I believe Lexan or Lucite or somthing.  They are acrylic.

Re: Repro's RL's Forklifter Plate - Pic - Opinions? Any Interest In Repro?

I won't do flame wars.  Check my message, you'll  see that I didn't bash you.  I simply stated that "E-Mails went unreturned" and "PM box was full."  Then went on to say that "I had a couple plates made for myself" and had decals made.  Then Applied the decals.  Then went on to show how it turned out.  I stated that if there was enough interest, I'd get some made for them.  I'm not looking to profit and definately not looking to go into business making plates.  I simply wanted a plate or 2 for my bike, that's all.  Like I said, re-read my post.  I won't get into flame wars.  Good Luck on your plates!  I know that there's a lot of people out there waiting.  I just went back and checked both of my e-mail accounts for replies.  Trust me, I'm being honest when I say that I didn't receive a reply.  I'm not sure how I'm out of line here?

Re: Repro's RL's Forklifter Plate - Pic - Opinions? Any Interest In Repro?

Everyone, this guy's product looks a hell of a lot better than what I made.  It's a lot more economical as well.  If you want an RL plate, please contact him.  I am not looking to go into business or get rich trying to be here for your Redline Forklifter plate needs.  His plates look amazing, nearly spot-on.  You would be foolish to attempt to do any better, than this guy has done.  You'd be hard-pressed to find a better price.  Mine looks like shity compared to his.
If anyone's looking for a blank plate in white, made of 1/8" Lexan acrylic, please PM me.  I contacted the place that made mine and I can get them for $26 + shipping.  I have a few people who have already committed, so I'll get a bunch done if you guys need them.  I WILL NOT be selling the stickered up plates.

Re: Repro's RL's Forklifter Plate - Pic - Opinions? Any Interest In Repro?

I helped Nighthawk find some missing pieces for RL's repro plate and was lucky enough to get 3 plates from the original run.  This picture isn't the best but the plates are beautiful.  Nighthawk is a great guy and just had some bad luck in the last few months but he is getting past all that.

Re: Repro's RL's Forklifter Plate - Pic - Opinions? Any Interest In Repro?

Only do it if they will sell.  These members who want one should give half down and the other half upon completion of the product so you don't get burnt if they back out. This will atleast cover your material cost if customers do try back out. If they do try to after they make the deposit make a clause that they're deposit locks them into the agreement and they will lose their deposit if they do.  Cover your butt before you get in too deep financially.  wink

Someone else was offering to make really nice ones... then he started getting flamed by some turdburglar dick and the thread got deleted.

Re: Repro's RL's Forklifter Plate - Pic - Opinions? Any Interest In Repro?

I had a bunch made a while ago and sold them.  I sold the last couple and took a loss just to get rid of them.  When Nighthawk posted just after I decided to have 20 blanks made, he said that he had just e-mailed everyone asking for payment.  He said that he wanted to have them ready for everyone for their Rockford builds.
DISCLAIMER(Please do not PM me, as it is only a thought at this point.  I could care less what you think as I'd be doing it for my own build(s), so post away about how I'm ruining the hobby - I don't care and won't argue with you as I only have 1 person to make happy - MYSELF
Since I'll be starting another project (RL880 Retro) and will need a plate, I was thinking about having another batch of plates done.  This time, I'll look into having a local shop do the CNC work in order to get the raised edges.  I have a friend who does this work and would inquire with him as to his opinion.  Again, this is just a thought at this stage.  Again, I could care kless what anyone says since I'd be happy with it.
