2009 VDC Changa II

Admin Note:  DAmn!  More pics please! smile

Changa revisited

Something old, something new, something borrowed, something ?blue? While sitting around and being bored, Voris Dixon made another frame and fork. The fork is an idea he had back in the 80's. The frame is a combination of old and new maintaining the Changa VDC look of the pierced top and down tube with the head tube.

Re: 2009 VDC Changa II

More likely an easily adjustable heat tube angle.  Herrington tried the 2wd, but it was heavy and pretty much pointless for a 30 second race in dry weather on a hard packed surface.

well my guess would be to change head tube angle. the slots in the fork dropouts are pretty long.  there could be up to 1" of adjustment there. that could be huge. voris you were ahead of your time in the 80's and still prove you can do it today.  WOW!!!!

I was kidding about the FWD.  I guess the adjustable head tube angle is a thought.  I still don't like it...at all.  JMO

I loved the Gorilla BITD so I have high hopes that he'll make something I'll like.  I tend to be kind of opinionated.  It just reminds me of the old freestyle frames I wasn't into.  I was/am a racer.

Re: 2009 VDC Changa II

Mike, WTF are you talking about?  It looks almost exactly like a 1983 VDC Changa with Thruster dropouts on it.  The Gorilla looked just like a really large Changa.  Personally, I'm not crazy about the look of the forks, but I really like the adjustable head angle idea.  I'm glad Mr. Dixon is still at it after all these years (dude, where have you been?) and is still searching to imaginative solutions to problems.

Re: 2009 VDC Changa II

We're seeing different things if you see an 83 Gorilla in that.  Maybe I can't get past the forks, decals, and color.  I don't know.  I really do think that the forks look ridiculous.  THATS JUST MY OPINION.  I didn't say I couldn't get over it.  I'm still going through my first impression.

I do, however, think that if an unknown welder submitted that it wouldn't be defended.  That being said, I know VD is no ordinary welder.  Maybe it'll grow on me.  I doubt the forks ever will but I can see potential in just using the frame in chrome or something.  Black chrome.tongue

The forks though....I just can't.  I'll give him this, he certainly has imagination.

Re: 2009 VDC Changa II

It occurs to me that the adjustable head tube angle would appear to have been banging around inside our dear Mr Dixon's brain for quite some time.  Look close at the dropouts on the Gorilla (or my VDC-made Free Agent cruiser), and notice that the dropout slots are angled downward.  The effect of this is; the longer you run your wheelbase, the steeper your head angle is and vice-versa.

Personally, I like the rear end better on the old bikes (perhaps a pic from a different angle would help.  Hint, hint)  I especially prefer the way the seat stays attach to the sides of the top tube rather than the bottom.

The only things I would deign to suggest are a different color (white would show off how much work there is in that seat post), a different shape to the rear dropouts and perhaps a welded-on seat post clamp.
