1986 SE Racing Quadangle

1986 SE Racing Quadangle

Candy apple red SE Racing Quadangle with Landing Gear forks, Redline 401's, ACS Z-rims, Galindo bars, Kashimax seat, comp 3 tires.

The Quadangle is done for now. I worked on this for a long time trying to find the same parts I had on my original 1983 red quad. This is not exactly the same but I did my best to make it accurate. I was not able to afford 401's or Tange 125 head set on my quad as a kid some parts were different colors. Since I was building this from the ground up and was making some changes on parts any way I decided to make it all black and red. (My original had white Mike Buff Z-Rims, one piece cranks, victor bear trap pedals and a Uni seat turbo.) My second (but really first from the ground up) restore. I will have some minor changes later when the Suntour XC2 pedals and front MX 1000 brakes are done restoration, and a few other things may change if I find the correct early oakley grips but it's close. List of parts from the old school: Late 80's Quad frame Landing Gear fork with candy red paint from C4 labs, MCS styler Stem, Galindo GX bars, AME tri grips, MX1000 dia-compe brakes, new school Skyway tuff pads with Terry cable, Tange 125 black head set, Dia-compe MX hinged seat clamp, GT laid back seat post, Kashimax Aero seat, Redline 401 single pinch full wrap flight cranks, Shimano sx pedals, Petes precision power disc and chain ring, Takagi black chain ring bolts, black and chrome chain, ACS Z-Rims circa 1983 pre logo, with red nipples black spokes and Sunshine hubs, mounted with Tioga compe 3 rainbow logo.
Has been parted out and sold.

Start looking they are out there. I just happened to see this one last year. Lots of blood sweat and money into building this!

Holy landing gear Batman!  That thing is cherry.  Very well done.  Love the attention to detail.  That bike captures the spirit of BMX racing in the 80's.

Re: 1986 SE Racing Quadangle

Thanks guys. I want to ride it sooooo bad. But alas it will hang up for now. Maybe build another with survivor parts to ride on. Here is my original form 1983. I just need the rest of the pad set. Can't remember exactly what the grips were on this?

Re: 1986 SE Racing Quadangle

If you are interested, here is a link to a couple pages of photos of me racing in the 80's.. on the first page I am on my mates quad that I mentioned.. 6th pic down #23  candy red with black z's.. not real clear but you can see it all the same.
These pics show you you a bit of racing in New Zealand from 81-84 I was 13-16.. enjoy.

Thanks. I'm making a few changes. Putting some restored Suntour XCII pedals and anodizing the stem cap red.

Re: 1986 SE Racing Quadangle

Hirko, craig behnke checking in from your way distant past.  love the build!  i remember riding quarter pipes with you while you had one of your many quadangles.  i don't have any of my old bikes (rode my GT 24 inch crusier thru college but donated to a bike shop years ago) i  have been itching to do an 80's bmx build.  maybe one of my old GT's.  I've been mountainbiking for 15 yrs now but it just isn't as fun as the ol' bmx days.  hope you are doing well my friend.  props to jim davies, he sent me the link to your builds.

Re: 1986 SE Racing Quadangle

Craig, Dude good to hear from you! The builds are fun, but expensive. The part that sucks is not being able to ride them. After spending the money on paint and hard to find parts you don't want to screw it up.
I still tell people about the day you broke your collar bone over by the fire house in yardley. Good times, good friends! Hard to make friends later in life like that. Build your bike! It's fun and relaxing, The hunt for parts is a challenge. People on this forum are pretty good about helping if you look for something special you can put it in the wanted area and guys will have it. Just have cash to spare it's more expensive now then it was when we were kids! Keep in touch, I look forward to seeing a bike from you! Send me an email to catch up!
Hirk
