Re: S&M hoarders unite

Looks like a 93 holmes bsmith, I have 2 frames like it, one in chrome and one in mint green. Nice grab there. Does it have the head tube sticker with John Holmes face on it? It should have 2 rear drop out sandwhiched together to make one thick one, B&E made.

cool Thanks for the info Jay.  Deff double thick drops, trying to figure the fork though.  Dont think they are "stupid forks", look a little homeless, dont know though.  Taking it apart now to do some clean up.  Will shoot some pics for the name it thread.  It does have the JH face on the head tube. roll woops I was wrong tongue

Re: S&M hoarders unite

bsmith that's an early Mk3 Holmes.  Notable features are the sandwich drops and the curved Mk2 brake bridge.  I'm pretty sure those are Homeless forks, too.  I just traded that exact frame to bmxninja.  I'll miss it.

FYI, that's not John Holmes.  That's Rick Moliterno of Standard Bykes fame.

More recent pic of him.

lol Great info Miko thanks.  I wasn't sure of that sticker pick.  Makes sense that Chris M would put a pick of Rick on one of his bikes lol  Didn't they have a big rivalry going on between the two of them?  The pic of JH is the one in     Sh itfits avatar isn't it?  School me on the designation of the "Mk3" Holmes???

I just took the forks off the bike, they are a 1" threadless design...  Any opinions/ideas?

Re: S&M hoarders unite

Well, if they're 1" they might be Hoffman.  Stupid Forks had wrap under dropouts.  I'm at a loss.

Holmes Types.
The Mk1 Holmes was a straight double diamond hard tail.  Like a Revcore or a Free Agent Limo with thick dropouts.  The stays were 5/8", I think.  Just beautiful, if you ask me.  The Mk2 had curved seat stays, often called "murray-style".  These looked nice, but they broke like whoa, and they only lasted about a year in production.  In late 1992 or early 1993 they went back to the straight DDHT rear with 3/4" stays, and the 990's became more or less standard too.  By 1994 the drops became flame cut 1-piece and the brake bridge went straight.  Curved ones still popped up on occasion.  I'll bet someone at B&E would just happen upon some old pieces and just use them.

Gary.  You're a beast.  Owning 2 WidowMakers is just unfair.  lol

Re: S&M hoarders unite

If you can take a pic of the forks without the wheel on (dropouts) I can tell you if they are Homeless forks or not. If you are considering getting rid of them let me know. I have 1 Homeless frame that needs a set of forks.

Don't think they're Homeless forks, the shape of the leg is wrong. My money would be on Hoffman instead.
