Re: - OFFICIAL: 1986 GT Performer Thread -
I put this one together last weekend. I still need a blue post, and a rotor put on.
'86 Pro Performer
GT stem,bars,post,seat
GT gumwalls off my old '85 PP
ODI Mushrooms
Nippons
DX pedals
Cosomo-Lite cranks
Tuff Neck chainwheel
Peregrine 48's
Should this have a blue rotor ?

Anyone have a blue post ?

Re: - OFFICIAL: 1986 GT Performer Thread -
this is a cool topic. I will add mine here if it helps out.
I got this brand new in May 1986 from My Local bike shop I think for $350+/- So this bike has no alterations and I have the whole bike intact but apart for the winter.
Blue Gt Pro Performer tt-18.5 inches
this is a G5 with a Japan sticker on BB
4130 decal on seat tube
4 holes on fork with one brake guide
3 holes on the rear dropout
and judge for yourself but I think it has the rake on the front head tube also. On second thought maybe not:)

Re: - OFFICIAL: 1986 GT Performer Thread -
To get back to the cable guides on the forks issue. My blue WT was originally a Performer and it has 2 cable guides. I'll dig around and find some pics of it before I redone it.
You can just make out the guide on the left leg of the frok in this one. This was how I got the f/f.

well so far no Japan frame has four hole dropouts so its either a USA frame with the serial on the drop out or Taiwan frame with serial on the bottom bracket.....

Many of the Japan frames have had 4 holes, they have all been the F6 ones so far but still Japanese.

Ok... got it.. so GT went from 5x to G5 to G6 to F6... any idea if this was the same frame shop for all japan frames...? any over lap would mean a different shop...

I believe the G5/6 and F6 and then the T8are just different lines of production within the same company, came on GTs from 85- 88 89 or so.
The same company that made Hutchs apparently made the 5X and Z frames, these serials came on GTs early-mid 85.
All theory's of course. ![]()

I stuck this together real quick today while watching it snow. Gonna end up pink/white but with a splash of blue. This is the same frame I posted in this thread earlier.

for the most part,, 86 performers they had that slotted steel chain wheel. pro performers had that four spoke steel chain wheel that was a carry over from 85 performers and then the World Tour with the sugino/sr gt stamped power disc and chain ring....the chain wheel, crank, stem, brakes and bolt on standing platforms is what separates the models...

Re: - OFFICIAL: 1986 GT Performer Thread -
I wonder if the number of holes has anything to do with the pr. line to track it back? For instance you can keep tabs on a more specific group of people that may have produced the frame when only so many guys on any given day made a frame from say
G6 with 3 holes. ![]()

Re: - OFFICIAL: 1986 GT Performer Thread -
Here is mine 1986 GT Pro Performer Pink, it is also in the museum
Original paint and decals
Non Orignal parts:
1. Tioga quick release seat post clamp
2. Grips
3. Front Odyssey fork standers
4. Tires
Info about the bike:
3 hole rear drop out
4 hole on forks with left side cable guide
Serial # G5J09430
has 4130 stamp
no made in Japan sticker
I purchased from original owner, and was told that the only parts taken off or added were the seat post clamp, and fork standers were traded for the Odyssey ones. I put new brake cables, tires, and grips on it. the rest is Original to GT I only cleaned it up. One interesting thing is the rotor is not stamped or painted with the Odyssey name.
also some info worth posting
Pedals: 1/2" SR-SP513
Crank: SR Cosmo Lite heat treated
Disc: only has 43T 1/8 stamped in it
Chain: Izume Chrome and black
Front & rear brake: dia-comp MX900
Brake levers: Dia-comp Tech 4
