1978 Free Spirit MX

1978 Free Spirit from Sears. Brought back from the dead.

Never underestimate the power of O/A.

This bike sat outside for years. Its a Free Sprit, sold through Sears back in the 70's.

This was the bike you had if your Dad had to work hard for a living, and you had a family budget.

Restored to the best of my abilities.

Re: 1978 Free Spirit MX

Thanks for posting this man I just found one and you made identification a snap.cool

The one I found is missing the rear wheel but I think it was a 3 speed because the grip has a MX style throttel twist with H-M-L. The forks kind of have a springer modification and the back seat poles have springs as well for the really hard landing ya know.  It  seems like it has a really long TT because I sat on it and it seemed comfortable. thanks again Hondo

How in the world did you find the sales ad from way back in the day?

I searched the web for copies of 70's Sears Christmas "Wish Books"...

Sure enough on around 1977, 1978 things started to come together....

Took a lot of research, but I was happy tongue

Re: 1978 Free Spirit MX

Just like RadicalBMXer this was my first BMX bike! Hell I had a 3rd hand old 50's schwinn that was like my moms before this! This thing was like a FERRARI back in the day! And yes an extremely HEAVY Ferrari - HA!
Oh and Hondo20 - maybe there were some that shifted - I don't remember mine doing that.

So frickin' cool man!
