1984 St Tropez Olympia
My first BMX
I received this bike just before my 14th birthday, Aug 2nd 1984. It was purchased at Wolf's Department Store (no longer in business) in Layton, Ut. I remember the ad stated "heavy duty racing spokes" and "life time warranty on frame". I almost chose the Murray instead with an oversize tube but loved the look of this one. It originally had all red accents, but my brother had one just like it with blue accents which I liked better, so I started changing them out before I moved and the bike had to go into storage. I pulled this out of storage and put it together for my 10 year old son.
Overall, this was a great bike. I put it through its paces for nearly 10 hrs a day at times and never had an issue with it. Some people claim that these bikes were "tanks" but this weighs in at a not horrible 29lbs, which was not much heavier than the bikes (Mongoose, Diamond Back) that my friends rode. I also knew a guy who cracked a "Goose" frame, doing the same things I did on this bike, so I was quite satisfied.
I would like to put some new rims and hubs on, and possibly change over to a three piece crank, as well as finish changing all other still red accent pieces to blue.
I haven't found much information on this brand (didn't know what this was until a few days ago, thanks to the forum guys), so I have no clue as to the material used in the manufacture.
Enjoy!
