1997 Schwinn El Jefe
Rare limited edition, US hand built frame number 01000397. In raw clearcoat. I decided to build as is, instead of refinish. A rough, ready rider.
Scored the frame on the Bay and when I got it found the rear drops spread by over 1/2" and hacked to 14mm...I was a little bummed. So I decided to build her up as a trail trashing monster, instead of all Schwinn XS/era correct parts. The seat tube is short and the bottom bracket is high, so after getting some taller bars she feels more comfortable for me (I'm 6'4") Now all I need is a larger sprocket, maybe a 33t, gearing is off but she's built from parts I had laying around. I'm planning on keeping her since I'm thinning the collection, but it's hard to say....maybe she'll be up for sale one day
