1979 Schwinn SX 1000 Competition Scrambler

I have owned and dragged this 1979 Schwinn SX 1000 scrambler around since it was bought brand new. I had saved up about $100.00 from a paper rout I had, and my parents gave me the rest of the money I needed to buy it brand new! In, 1979. It was a 10 dollar upgrade for chrome, I took the upgrade!! There are so many memories wrapped up In this bike, I road this thing everywhere, and raced it on the weekends, back in the days when your parents would tell you to go outside and play, just be back for dinner. After dinner you would go outside again and come home after dark, riding with a gang of BMX junkies. I met my first love and soul mate on this bike. I had actually bunny hopped over her 7 other kids and milk crate all laying down side by side. When she moved away I would ride this bike 8 plus miles to see her, then back home. We are now married and have three boys. We are actually able to enjoy this bike and its history together. Every part on this bike is the original part that I had put on it from the early 80s to upgrade it for when I started racing, the handle bars, redline brute stem, Kashimax seat, and Araya 7x rims. The only new things I’ve recently bought to bring it back to exactly how I had it back then, are the pads, tires, and crank which I had snapped off the day I brought the bike out from the basement 28 years later and me being 50 something pounds heavier, showing off some of the tricks I had known as a kid for my wife and sons, only ending up with some road rash and a broken ego. I guess it’s just more of its history. For some crazy reason I could never let this bike go, no matter where I’ve moved, where my life had brought me, or when people asked why do you still have that old bike? I now know why. I have always loved it, and loved where it has brought me in my life. I hope you’ve enjoyed my story, and the photos of my childhood bike. One more thing, that’s not my house in the background.
