1981 Schwinn Sting

The Sting I built and raced in the early 80's

I built this bike while working at a Schwinn shop. I took a Sting off the floor, put the stock pieces in the display cabinet and built up what I wanted to race instead. I recently updates this bike into the color scheme my daughter calls uber-red :)  With the exception of the seat and the rims, this is very accurate to the way I raced it.  It's still the quickest bike in my stable :)

There are 2 historical inaccuracies in the way it sits right now.  Those of you looking at the pictures closely will notice the stem is not an early 80s piece, and the freewheel is a new AC racing 15t. which allows me to run the 42t front spocket that was on the bike as the annodizing faded.  My other chainwheels were in my race bag and didn't fade so they no longer match as well.
