2000 Profile Racing BGR

He was tall....

For its day, in 2000, this PROFILE Racing BGR (Big Guns Racing) frame was a pretty big frame...
Which coincides with John Smart's own 6'6" tall frame !

This particular frame you see here is purported to be J.S.'s own race frame from that year.
J.S. was an Aussie racer who came over to race in the US.
He had ridden for ProConcept (he rode a PC XXXL frame which was a 22"+ top tube frame).
Then he converted over from aluminum to this PROFILE 4130 masterpiece.

The more I stare at this frame, the more detail & craftsmanship I see in it.

Each individual tube has been artfully manipulated in its own right, from tapering to "oval-ising" -

it truly is a work of mechanical art.

Anyways, you can read an interview with Smart in RIDE BMX at this link:

I took the liberty of building this BGR up as I saw fit however, not as a John Smart resto...
In a way, its my own tribute to that bike, with a fresh twist.

I enlisted Steve (ScaryFast) from Rhythm Racing Componentsto resuscitate the frame & forks with a superb silver metallic paint-job,

and then I did the following -

Staying with both the PROFILE Racing and the "large" themes of this bike, I fitted up a set of 190mm PROFILE cranks.

Yup, 190mm.

The forks are unkowns, but my guess was PROFILE/Rocket aluminum, with beautiful tapers to match the super stylish BREW-made frame.

Chainwheel is a PROFILE Blackjack.

Pedals are ATOMLAB clips.

Wheels are superb MAVIC XiXiX... really, really nice!

Tires are SCHWALBE Blackjack (notice another theme creeping in here?)

Stem and seat are both PROFILE.

Seat clamp is a PROFILE Slim Jim, and the chain tugs are PROFILE.

Seat post is a CONTROL TECH.

Bars are A.R.T., just because I like them.

Headset, grips & brakes are all CANE CREEK... because I'm a huge CANE CREEK fan.

I had several sets of CRANE CREEK Direct Curve brakes already,

but I made the extra effort to locate a period appropriate set of Direct Curve brake arms for this build.

And last but not least, the valve caps are the Ace of Spades :)
