1979 Mongoose Motomag
1979 Mongoose Motomag. Tried for an era correct build.
Started with a 79 nickel Motomag frame with coaster brake tab, then bought a set of NOS 79 stamped Ashtabula forks, scored a set of Ashtabula fork decals on E-bay, also Motomag decal set on E-bay. Ashtabula Crank stamped 78 (refinished) Bars and stem (refinished) came from a 80 Motomag, Mongoose stamped seat clamp and 44 tooth chainwheel, wheels came from E-bay and were from a 79 Takara Outlaw CMC 20 X 2.125 with Shimano coaster brake. Newer Kenda K-44 tires, NOS YST chrome bottom bracket, chrome seatpost and new AW-27 headset. Newer black rat trap pedals and black chain. Persons seat but I could not find a Mongoose seat tag, so I added a Schwinn Stingray seat tag.
I built this bike as if it were 1979 and these were the parts that were available. Budget build, happy with how it came out.
