Jack Taylor (1983–1991)
Sometime in late 1981 or early 1982, a local shop team approached Jack Taylor Cycles in Stockton-on-Tees (UK) about building them some BMX frames. The 3 brothers Taylor had been building all manner of bicycle frames (mostly road frames for touring and racing, though they were especially known for touring tandems, and were known for being willing to try anything from racing tricycles to circus unicycles) since 1936, but this was something new. I know little about how this actually came about, despite having talked with some of the brothers about it, except that the team had been breaking downtubes at the bb shell, and were interested in strengthening that joint. What resulted was a prototype in May of 1982, and then 2 batches of 5 frames each, one in November 1982, and the next in November 1983.
